At the 2008 Durand, WI, Christmas Bird Count, Jim Beix was inspired by the enthusiasm and skills of the others in the group and hatched an idea to bring together people interested in learning and sharing knowledge about birds. He called other enthusiasts he knew, and from that a club was formed. The initial planning group consisted of Jim Beix, Mary Roen, Ed Heit, Keith Solimar, Pete Rodewald, Keith Bennett and Mark Bergland. By the spring of 2009, they launched the St. Croix Valley Bird Club. By the end of its first year the club boasted 35 members. Since that initial gathering of friends, the club has grown to over 100 members.
The St. Croix Valley Bird Club’s mission, via education and exposure, is to encourage interest in birds among people of the St. Croix Valley, thereby promoting habitat conservation and restoration efforts.
