posted 20 Nov 2011, 18:58 by St Bedes College Cricket   [ updated 20 Nov 2011, 19:00 ]

After losing by some margin to STAC at the beginning of the year, the
Bede's boys were keen to turn it around this week. Bede's batted first
and scored 238, with good contributions throughout the whole lineup,
topped by Tom Ziolo with a swashbuckling 59 from 45 balls (including 2
big sixes). STAC replied strongly with one of their openers scoring 107
in short time, and they were cruising at 160 for 3. Taylor Irie then
ploughed through the STAC lineup in his second spell, taking 5 wickets
for 11 runs, finishing with figures of 6 for 34, and STAC all out for 187.

Ideal first-up practice match with Year 10 players Jamie Costello and Tim Hanrahan impressing with the ball.
All of our batsmen got starts with Jacob Vanner (64no) and Will Otte (22no) finishing the run chase well with a 77 run unbroken partnership.

St Bedes College.  Batting First 222-7 from 50 overs. (C Due 36, K Foote 40, J Boyle 12, H Schulte 24, J Vanner 22, J Tucker 44.)
Shirley Boys High. 113 allout. (J Tucker 2-25, H Schulte 1-15, W Otte 1-19, J Caddick 2-10, A Simmons 1-18, J Boyle 2-24.)

A Polished Batting performance with contributions from the whole lineup set up a Competitive 222-7 from 50 overs. Again a good start with an opening partnership of 82 from Charlie Due and Keiran Foote provided the foundation for  the following batsmen to play with confidence with James Tucker finishing the innings strongly.
Shirley Boys were never in the hunt with the 4 Seamers used all taking wickets. They were well supported by Spinners Angus Simmons and Jack Boyle, both who also took wickets.

3rd XI vs Riccarton High School 2nd XI at Ricc High School 3

Sam once again lost the toss!! and we were forced to do what the opposition wanted us to do which was field.

This did not worry our team, as we bowled them all out for 64.There were great efforts from ALL bowlers. Another fantastic effort from Cam with 4-11,
Will Chambers was outstanding with 3-14, with 3 maidens off 6 over's. Ben, Andre and Conner also got one each.

With this chase obviously going to be quick the opposition suggested we play another 20 over's either way, which was a great thing for the opposition to do.

The winning runs were hit in the 11th over for the loss of just one wicket, the following over's enabled Mike Gill to get 44, Sam Houghton had some
needed time in the middle and hit a quick fire 44. But from the start Jordan Watts played great shots which enabled him to hit 17 runs off the last over,
50 Not Out, a good innings Jordan.

The 3rd XI is becoming a great team, when an injured player turns up to do the scoring it shows the spirit of the team, Thanks Joe.

Keep up the great team effort!!

2nd XI vs CBHS Colts 19 February 2011 at St Bedes 1

posted 20 Feb 2011, 11:27 by St Bedes College Cricket   [ updated 20 Feb 2011, 11:36 ]

Bedes bowled first and had CBHS in trouble at 111-6 with some tight bowling and tight fielding.  However, the intensity slipped and CBHS recovered to post 210, Jamie Costello finishing with 3-47.  The reply was well set up with an opening partnership of 102 by Mitchell Kortegast and Angus Vincent, both batsman scoring fine 47's.  Neither looked in any trouble, but the introduction of spin from both ends tied the boys down, and both were out trying to force the pace.   Aaron Clarke and Thomas Laurent steadied the ship with a 50 run partnership, which almost saw us home.  It was left to Freddie Owens to crack a four and win the game for Bedes by 7 wickets with overs to spare.

1st XI vs St Bedes Old Boys Invitation XI - 13 February

posted 15 Feb 2011, 00:25 by St Bedes College Cricket   [ updated 15 Feb 2011, 00:29 ]

St Bedes OldBoys 11. 175 All Out (Wade Cornelious 60, Mark Vanner 31, Matt Teale 24. Hagen Schulte 2-25, Jono Caddick 3-34, Will Otte 4-34, Blake Doherty 1-16).
St Bedes 1st 11. 178-3 (Charlie Due 54, Kieran Foote 28, Jack Boyle 42 notout, Jacob Vanner 16 notout).

An excellent result for the 1st 11 dismissing the OldBoys 11 for a modest 175 after at one stage rollicking along at 110-2 off 20 overs. Former 1st Class player Wade Cornelious provided real class to the match with an excellent 60 including 3 massive 6's. The 1st 11 seam bolwers then faught back well, dismissing the remaining 7 batsmen cheaply with Will Otte, Jono Caddick and Hagen Schulte impressing with the ball.
The 1st 11 Batsmen then showed a great degree of maturity in scoring 178-3 with Charlie Due and Kieran Foote starting well. Wade Cornelious and Matt Teale bowled with pace and hostility but the 1st 11 top order held firm. Jack Boyle and Jacob Vanner finished the job well resulting in a convincing victory with the James Flood Trophy presented to 1st 11 Captain Hagen Schulte.

U14A vs STAC at STAC 12 February 2011

St Bede's 9A vs STAC results: STAC win by 5 wkts

What a difference a week can make! St Bede's 9A batted first at STAC's small ground, expecting to set a large total to defend. However, the
team was out in after 30 overs (that is, 15 overs remaining!), with the majority of players being caught playing aerial shots. Regan Cantwell
played very well for his top-scoring 30, which was more than double the next highest score in the innings. The team ended up with 126 runs.

Bede's bowled very well in reply, with Bradley Walters picking up 3/15, but STAC chased the target down in the 22nd over and 5 wickets down,
though looking very vulnerable towards the end. A few less dropped catches by the Bede's boys, and another 30 or so runs would have made
for a very interesting game! The importance of valuing your wicket was hopefully learned, by the St Bede's team.

It was also a bit of a trial by fire for some of the Bede's boys, who umpired for the first time. The outcome is that they learnt very quickly
how it is not as easy as it appears! However, they are all very much the wiser for it.

2nd XI vs Riccarton HS 1st XI - 12 February 2011 at Riccarton High School 1

posted 13 Feb 2011, 11:39 by St Bedes College Cricket   [ updated 20 Feb 2011, 16:52 ]

The 2nd XI lost to Riccarton High School on a rather dodgy pitch.  St Bedes bowled first and had good stints at the crease, interspersed with some more wayward bowling.  Jacob Parker bowled his leg spin well, taking 4-22, including a triple wicket maiden to wreck the middle order.  Jamie Costello chimed in with 3-17.  They restricted Riccarton to 158.  Wickets fell steadily through the St Bedes innings to see us all out for 56.  The Riccarton bowlers were the difference, bowling very well to exploit the pitch.  They employed very attacking fields and coupled with their bowling, it was too much for our boys.

1st XI vs Christ's College 5 February 2011 at Christ's College 1

posted 6 Feb 2011, 16:04 by St Bedes College Cricket   [ updated 6 Feb 2011, 16:06 ]

Christs College Batted First 233/6 off 50 overs. (J Caddick 1/40 off 10, A Simmons 2/32 off 10, H Schulte 1/45 off 10, B Doherty 1/61 off 10).
An excellent bowling performance in ideal batting conditions considering our injury crisis to our bowlers. Realistically, only 5 bowling options available with 3 injured bowlers disrupting both the 1st and 2nd 11's. All 5 bowlers used bowling commendably with Offspinner Angus Simmons impressing opening the bowling. Not a great fielding performance hovewer with far to many runs leaked, with more urgency and concentration required to back up our bowling effort.

St Bedes All Out for 178 in 44 Overs. ( H Schulte 79, K Foote 24, J Boyle 14, B Doherty 21 not out.)
After a promising start wickets fell regularly with no one able to build a significant partnership with Hagen Schulte's excellent innings of 79. A gritty 21no by Blake Doherty gave the total some credibility.

2nd XI vs Lincoln-Ellesmere 1st XI 5 February 2011 at St Bedes 1

We won the toss and sent Lincoln into bat.  Their opening batsman ended up getting to 92 which helped them set a mammoth total for us to chase.  The fielding wasn't as good as it could have been with aprox 30 runs having been given away in the field.  Their score of 266 was always going to be a challenge.  A highlight was watching Kyle Smith try for his hat-trick.  Our batting innings stopped and started with us managing to get to 199/9.
