St Bede’s College 3rd XI player, Steven Golding, scored 358 in an amazing display of power hitting, to take his team to the lead in a two day match against Sydenham in the 3rd Grade Black Section 1 competition on Saturday the 24th of March 2007.
Sydenham batted first on an artificial pitch at St Bede’s and made 209 all out in their first innings. At 2:30pm Golding and fellow opener Hamish Catherwood began the onslaught with both openers hitting their first faced balls for 6. The 50 partnership was brought up in the fourth over. The opening partnership continued to flourish until Catherwood was bowled for 132 and the partnership was on 293.
Golding continued to bat with a fine mix of precision and brute force, his first 100 being made up of 10 sixes and 6 fours. From there, he exploded on until being bowled on 358. His tally read 39 sixes, 21 fours, 8 twos and 32 singles.
St Bede’s College ended the day declaring on 575 for two with Michael Gardner the not out batsman on 60.
