2010 - First XI - 412 in a 50 over game

4th Dec 2010.  One Day Competition: St Bede’s College 1st XI vs. Timaru Boys High School 1st XI

The day didn’t start as planned by losing the toss and being put in into bat on what we thought was a bowl first pitch. We didn’t get off to a great start by losing a wicket in the first over but from there we performed out of our skins. Hamish Teale got the momentum flowing very quickly in our favour scoring his first 50 runs off 20 balls but we were losing wickets regularly from the other end until number five Hagen Schulte walked out into the middle in the 10th over with the score at 76 for 3. By the 25th over the score had sky rocketed to 217 with Hamish and Hagen putting on 141 for the fourth wicket showing the best clean striking of a cricket ball seen in school cricket, Hamish was dismissed on 109 off 66 balls. Hagen shifted into another gear after the wicket scoring his first 1st XI hundred off 67 balls and didn’t have any plans on stopping there scoring 150 off 88 balls then blowing past the St Bede’s record of 181 set by Liam Bartholomeusz in March 2007. He was finally dismissed on 197 in the 38th over with the team score on 360.

Hagen Schulte - top scorer for St Bedes with 197

James Tucker supported Hagen very well feeding the strike with a mature 21. After that the scoring rate did fall away but the damage was already done and we were bowled out for a massive 412 in the 46th over. It was always going to be a very steep uphill battle for Timaru but they did come out trying scoring six an over on a consistent basis but with regular wickets falling it did not help their cause. Timaru were all out for 153 in the 33rd over with Blake Doherty and Hamish Teale both bowling their 10 overs straight for 3 wickets apiece. This was a phenomenal effort from the boys getting ourselves up into a 3rd and 4th playoff game against Shirley Boys High. Hagen’s innings has set a new bench mark in the school’s history books and will not be beaten for some time.
