A note from the Rector, Justin Boyle.
"Sport fulfils an important role at St Bede's College, playing a crucial part in developing well-balanced, well-adjusted young men.
A properly planned coaching programme, gives students the best possible opportunity to get the best from each player, and in so doing helps develop key values and qualities that are transportable to other parts of their lives. i.e.: the values of hard work, team work, accepting the good with the bad.
It is for these reasons that St Bede’s values its cricket programme highly.
While the challenge of competition and striving to win are important objectives in cricket, learning to compete is part of a process young cricketers need to be guided through. They cannot achieve success without the essential cricket skills and a strong sense of teamwork and fair play. These are the building blocks for continued participation and enjoyment of the game."
St Bede’s cricket provides training twice a week under the guidance of appropriate coaches (see the Practice Timetable). Unfortunately, the Club is unable to provide coaches for all teams on Saturday’s and we rely on parents and volunteers as Team Managers on match days. Knowledge of the game is not a prerequisite – if you are a regular spectator at your son’s games and would be able to assist then please let us know.
St Bedes College Cricket are keen to assist anyone interested in pursuing cricket coaching qualifications with New Zealand Cricket. Please contact the Cricket Co-ordinator if you would like details on this opportunity.
Please view the coaching videos. These provide an invaluable resource in introducing and reinforcing the skills required to succeed in cricket!
