Services @ St. Augustine's

Welcome to St. Augustine's Chapel at Diocesan Boys' School

Welcome to the web-page for St. Augustine’s Chapel at DBS, a member of the Anglican (Episcopal) Diocese of Eastern Kowloon. An exciting time lies ahead as we prepare to start regular Sunday worship early in 2013. This chapel, dedicated to Saint Augustine of Hippo, Bishop and Theologian, has been a long time in the planning. In fact it is the first time in the history of DBS that the school has had a custom-built chapel. Previously, different parts of the school buildings were adapted for use as a chapel at different times, the last being the George She Memorial Chapel in the lower ground floor of the main building. In fact the altar from that chapel has found a home as a side altar within St. Augustine’s while that chapel itself retains its association with the former headmaster and is now known as the George She Christian Centre.

St Augustine’s Chapel was dedicated and consecrated on 10th July 2012 and has been in use since then for a number of special services as well as for the 5 p.m. services for boarding students Monday-Thursday in term time.

In September 2012 Bishop Louis and the standing committee of the Diocese of Eastern Kowloon gave permission for St. Augustine’s to provide regular Sunday worship and develop as a congregation within the diocese. This is the challenge which now lies ahead of us. With God’s help and the prayers of all of you who read this, we can face the challenge. Our first Sunday service will take place on Sunday 13th January 2013 at 10:30 a.m. Access to chapel will be available from Argyle Street via the school drive and the Steps from Prince Edward Road West. For those coming by car, parking will be available within the school campus.

All are welcome to attend our services, both baptised and unbaptised who may want to discover more about Christianity. The service will take the form of a Eucharist (Holy Communion) according to the Sheng Kung Hui (Hong Kong Anglican Church) rite, and will last approximately 1 hour. The service will be conducted in English.

In time it is hoped that St. Augustine’s will develop a church choir as well as a full range of congregational activities and a children's Sunday school, as numbers dictate.

We look forward to welcoming you into our fellowship.

The Very Revd K.K. Chan - Priest-in-charge
