5 - Jesus meets the women

O sing to the Lord a new song

All        for he has done marvellous things.  Alleluia.

Bible reading - Matthew 28:9-10

Suddenly Jesus met them and said, ‘Greetings!’ And they came to him, took hold of his feet, and worshipped him. 10Then Jesus said to them, ‘Do not be afraid; go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me.’

This revelation is not just third hand news but backed up with a direct meeting.  The angel was merely the warm up act for the real deal.  The news the women will pass on is now ‘we have seen the Lord’ with our own eyes!  The other gospels tell us that they won’t be believed, because this is out of the disciples’ normal experience, to say the least, and they need help to get hold of it.  But getting hold of it is only the beginning; they are told to tell the others that they will see him at Galilee, where they first met him.  That is significant.  They are taken back to the place where he called them to follow him and that call to follow has not ended, in fact it is only just beginning.

Risen Lord,

as you returned your disciples to the place of their call

so refresh within us your call to follow you.  Amen.

Sing to the Lord, bless his name

All        tell of his salvation from day to day.  Alleluia.
