Tech Requirements for online course STAT 203:
To be able to complete the online quizzes successfully, at a minimum you will need a personal computer, access to the internet, a webcam , and a microphone to take online exams.
Textbook: The Basic Practice of Statistics (9th edition), by D.S. Moore, W.I. Notz, M.A. Fligner. Publisher: W.H. Freeman.
Course Overview:
Aimed at a non-mathematical audience, this course discusses procedures that are most commonly used in research in the social sciences. The rationale for these procedures is explained in detail but the use of mathematical formulas is kept to a minimum. Descriptive and inferential statistics aimed at students in the social sciences. Scales of measurement. Descriptive statistics. Measure of association. Hypothesis tests and confidence intervals. Quantitative.
Evaluation of students:
Final course grades will be based on the following four components with weights shown in parentheses:
Quizzes (or Homework), and Class Participation (30%):
1. Weekly Zoom office hour meeting is conducted via Zoom.
2. Cheating in a test will result in 0% class participation (and other penalties).
3. Late-Arrival-Penalty: Anyone fails to attend the first week Zoom meeting will be deducted 1% from final score.
4. Weekly quizzes (or HW Assignments) given in the semester.
Midterm examination (30%):
The midterm exam will be on WEEK 7.
Final comprehensive examination (40%):
You are allowed to use a crib sheet for the final exam (8.5x11 inches, handwritten, and double-sided).
2. The final exam will cover all the material taught in the course and the final exam date is TBD.
