Uber.com – From Persecution to Profits
Time: 5.30 pm, 18th October 2011
Location: Aldrich 209
Synopsis: Please join Co-Founder and CEO Travis Kalanick and some members of the Uber team (www.uber.com) as they share stories about the company’s founding and growth as well as plans for the upcoming launch in Boston!
Travis Kalanick is an entrepreneur in the areas of transportation, consumer Internet, p2p, and enterprise content delivery. He is currently the co-founder and CEO of Uber, an on-demand towncar service operating in most of the U.S.’s major cities.
Before Uber, Travis founded Red Swoosh, a p2p CDN that he sold for $19mm to Akamai Technologies in April 2007. Prior companies include Scour, the world’s first p2p search engine where Kalanick also attained the dubious distinction of having been sued for $250 billion."
Uber, a San Francisco-based startup offering on-demand car service, has finally landed in Boston! Using their mobile app or SMS, users are able to request cars in a few touches – think… never wait or deal with cabs again! Especially when coming back to school from downtown Boston or during winter blizzards.
Uber is offering 15% off the first three rides for new HBS Startup Tribe users. Just use promo code “startuptribe” when signing up. Only 50 are available so act quickly! More info at www.uber.com or download the app from the App Store (http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/uber/id368677368?mt=8)!
P.S. We may have a seat open at the Boston launch dinner for HBS’ #1 power user.
