RCs and ECs,
Last year several students attended SXSW in Austin, TX. The conference is a great opportunity to network in the tech/media community. Last year several students made introductions that led to internship and full-time offers. We also had a great time, met many new friends, and learned a lot along the way (see pictures from last year here). Arranging for housing at SXSW is very difficult and our best chance of making sure everyone has a place to stay is to collaborate. Please read more about the planning process below and fill out the google doc to indicate your interest in attending the conference.
SXSW has three parts: Interactive, Film, and Music. While you are welcome to attend which ever part of the conference interests you most, the majority of our activities are organized around the interactive conference. SXSW Interactive starts on Friday, March 9th, 2012 and ends on Tuesday, March 13th, 2012. The dates line up with the first half of the HBS spring break calendar. You are welcome to stay for the entire conference, but we recommend spending only 2-4 days at the conference (Friday – Monday was popular trek last year). This leaves you plenty of time to experience all that SXSW has to offer, and then catch up with your section/friends on spring break!
This year we will have a Harvard sponsored event for students and alumni on Sunday, March 11 from 8-10pm. We are also planning a party with Stanford GSB and Wharton later that same evening. We will continue to plan mixers and meet ups over the coming months, but could use your help. If you can organize an event students would be interested in attending (e.g., mixer with former employer/client/customer/etc.), please just let us know by listing it in the "Activity Ideas" column in the google doc. Additionally, please list your travel plans and housing options. Once we have a good idea on # of attendees and housing needs, we will look in to housing options for the group.
Please be sure to register for the Harvard-wide event, below.
