Coach John Bowen

Coach Bowen enters his fifth season as the Panther soccer program girls’ varsity head coach. He began his high school coaching career as both Varsity Assistant and JV Head Coach for Fayette County (1995-1998) before becoming the Varsity Girls Head Coach at Newnan HS (1999-2005). After a year off he began serving as Boys JV Head Coach at Sandy Creek (2007) before joining McIntosh as a varsity assistant (2008-2011). Coach Bowen also served as the McIntosh JV Girls Head Coach (2012) before joining the Starr’s Mill soccer program in 2013.

Coach Bowen is married to Jillian Bowen (the Boss), an English teacher, department chair, and unofficial assistant coach here at Starr’s Mill. The couple has an 2 year old daughter Katherine.

Coach Bowen worked previously as a trainer and coach with local clubs PTCYSA Lazers, Coweta Cannons, and AFC Lightning. He served as President of the Coweta County Soccer Association from June 2003 until June 2004 and head coach of Atlanta Christian College in the fall of 1993. He earned his USSF D License in 1995, NSCAA National in 2000 and the NSCAA Advanced National Diploma in 2003. He has been an NSCAA member since 2000. He was named the 2008 NSCAA Assistant Coach of the Year. Coach Bowen played soccer at Riverdale HS, Mars Hill College, on several ADASL amateur teams and continues to play indoor and 7-a-side locally when able.

Coach Bowen received a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting from Mars Hill College in 1993. He obtained Business Education certification from the State University of West Georgia in 1999 before later adding Math certification in 2007. Coach Bowen taught business education at Newnan HS (1999-2005) and Sandy Creek (2005-2007). He began teaching math at McIntosh (2007-2012) and is currently in his 5th year at Starr’s Mill. He teaches 10th grade Geometry and 12th grade Decision Making.
