Coach Mike Hanie

Coach Mike Hanie has been associated with Starr’s Mill High School since it opened in 1997.  Before coming to Starr’s Mill, Coach Hanie spent fifteen (15) years in the 
Olympic Development Program (ODP), six (6) years in the college ranks, and eighteen (19) years at the high school level coaching girls and boys.  He is a state-licensed coaching instructor conducting coaching courses throughout the state. 


Mike was an All-State goalkeeper at Forest Park High School and went on to play for Berry College.  He received his Master degree from Georgia Southern University and currently teaches Project Adventure at Rising Starr Middle School.  Coach Hanie holds a USSF “A” licenseNSCAA Premiere License, and USSF National Youth License.  He has been State Coach of the Year in 2000 and 2004 and he has been recognized as Region Coach of the Year six (6) times during his career.


Under Coach Hanie's direction, the Varsity Boys team compiled a record of 208-66-17, won the Region nine (9) times and achieved a Top-20 National ranking on two occasions.  Highlighting his tenure at Starr's Mill, Coach Hanie led Starr’s Mill Boys to take the State Championship in 2000 (AAA) and 2010 (AAAA).  The Boys were State Finalists in 2004, Semifinalists in 2006 and Quarterfinalists on six (7) occasions - 2001, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2007, 2008 and 2011.  In 2007, Coach Hanie also led the Starr’s Mill Girls to the State Finals. 


Mike Hanie’s overall record for HS Boys is 264-86-20 and 45-16-0 for HS Girls.
