Greetings of LOVE and PEACE!
Confirmation plays a vital role in the Catholic initiation process. As the Catechism of the Catholic Church puts it, “Confirmation is necessary for the completion of baptismal grace.” (CCC no. 1285) Through this sacrament, the candidate “confirms” his/her promise sworn at baptism. More importantly as one its major effects, through the grace of the Holy Spirit he/she receives special strength to spread and defend the faith by word and action as true witness of Christ, to confess the name of Christ boldly, and never to be ashamed of the Cross. (Cf. CCC no. 1303)
Once again, in behalf of the Confirmation and Parish Team, I am very grateful to direct the Teen Confirmation Program of St. Anthony this year. Last year was filled with learning experiences as we journeyed with the candidates until the very moment of their confirmation. I must say that it was not easy. To work with teenagers is to work with their struggles too and to do so means to be compassionate with them (from the Latin words “com” meaning “with” + “patí” meaning “bear or suffer”) that is, to suffer with them.
This year as we enhanced the 1-year program from last year, we devised some more activities which we hope could respond to their well-being as a Christian. With God’s grace we can make it happen; with the gifts of the Holy Spirit, I am confident that WE CAN!
Continue praying for our candidates as we prepare them for confirmation. May God bless us all!
