Dear Stanmer lover
You are warmly invited to attend the Annual General Meeting of the Stanmer Preservation Society to be held in Stanmer Church at 2.30 on Saturday 2nd February 2019.
This year Stanmer Park is facing greater changes than at any time since its purchase in 1947: including the HLF plans for the Walled Garden, controversial plans for a new road and car park; changes at Stanmer House, the Forge and the Tea Rooms; and the Council’s proposals to convert the Long Barn into offices and sell off two vacant plots for development in the heart of Stanmer Village.
But it's not all doom and gloom, there have been some positive developments including the creation of the Wildflower Conservation Society to ensure the long time survival and continuation of Johnny Gapper's wildflower seed bank. Also we now have our very own red telephone kiosk - ideas for future use welcome - and have a pretty good idea of how many species of bats are sharing our park, including brown long-eared in the church itself.
Not only is the AGM our chance to update you on what has been happening over the past year, but it’s also your opportunity to talk to us and to think about how you could become more involved, perhaps by joining us on the Executive Committee, or as a Trustee or a volunteer. If you’re interested in applying for an executive role, you’ll need to let us know in advance – please see the details attached.
You will need to be a member to attend the AGM, so the doors will be open from 2.00 for you to join or renew your membership, listen to some live music and enjoy a slideshow (including images from a recently discovered box of slides from our Society’s archive) before the meeting itself starts at 2.30.
Membership renewals can also be made by cheque (payable to SPS) or cash addressed to:
