Democracy Debate

Yann Allard-Tremblay vs John Skorupski

In the words of Yann:

Do rights bind democracy or do we decide democratically

which rights there are? Is democracy the appropriate decision-making

procedure only within the boundaries of a theory of justice or as long

as it respects a predefined set of rights? Or has democracy priority

over questions of justice and of rights? Ultimately, this binds into

the question of what political philosophy is about: a realist

conception of legitimacy or a moralised conception of legitimacy.

I will be defending the primacy of democracy while John Skorupski will

be defending the opposite view - or his own take on the problem.
