Mixed choir "Petko Stainov" was established in 1972 on the initiative of the great Bulgarian composer and musician Petko Stainov.For many years it was led by the famous Bulgarian conductor – Petja Pavlovitch. She is known in Bulgaria and abroad for her outstanding talent and professional skills. 

 From 2009 as a consultant of the choir works her daughter - prof. Theodora Pavlovitch.

Other conductors working with  the choir were Vanya Moneva, Neli Trosheva, Kirkor Tyutyundzhian, Dora Kosheva, etc.




Mixed choir "Petko Stainov" became one of the leading ensembles in Bulgaria. It is a prize-winner in many international competitions

-         Aretzo,Italy - 1980 - 2nd and special prize;

-         Varna, Bulgaria - 1985 - 3rd prize;

-         Ihlava, Czech - 1987 - 3rd prize;

-         Preveza, Greece - 2000 - 2nd prize and silver award;

-         Musica Sacra - Praque,Czech - 2001 - The golden award. 

-         Choir festival – Ankara, 2003 – award for successful synchronization of the conductor with the choir.

The choir consists of  30 members non  professional singers.

 

  

  The repertoire of the ensemble is a great variety of styles and epoches - from  Old  orthodox  works (15-16 centery)  and folk songs,  trough renaissance,  romantissam and sacra ones, classic compositions,  spirituals, opera choirs, oratorial works (Mozart - Requiem), to modern Bulgarian and foreign music.

 

 

The choir has performed successfully in Czech, Denmark, Finland, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Austria, Turkey, Slovak and Russia.In 1999 "Petko Stainov" choir was  invited by Ministry of Culture to participate in European Month of Culture in Plovdiv, Bulgaria.From 2006 the choir participated in the project “250 years Mozart”, performing  Requiem – Mozart with different orchestras and solists from Bulgaria.  2008 - Messe G Dur by Franz Schubert.

 

 October 2006 – concerts in Italy, organized by Concentus Musicus Fabraternus “Josquin Des Pres” – Ceccano.

 June 2007 - International Choir Festival Vranov Nad Toplou, Slovak

 August 2008 - Ohrid Choir Festival, F.Y.R.O. Macedonia


Mixed choir "Petko Stainov"  sings together with famous Bulgarian orchestras and opera singers.The choir has records for Bulgarian National Radio and for Bulgarian Televisions.

 

 Choir "Ptko Stainov" is in cultural relation with Foundation "PETKO GRUEV STAYNOV"

 The choir is a member of BULGARIAN CHORUS UNION
