Our Priests

Parish Priest: Fr Derek McGuire

I was born in Dundee, Scotland in 1967. My parents are Jim and Olive and I have one brother, Stephen and one sister Margaret-Anne. My primary school was called SS Peter and Paul and my secondary school, St. John's High School. After that I decided to move in to work and I joined a family firm of tailors and gent's outfitters in Dundee.

After two years there I decided to look seriously at the possibility of becoming an Augustinian Friar. After completing one year in Clare Priory, Suffolk, I went on to the Novitiate in Dublin for one year. I took my first vows in September 1988 and moved to Rome to begin my study of Philosophy. After two years of study I gained a Diploma of Philosophy from the Gregorian University and I then moved in to a Degree in Theology which I completed three years later. In 1993 I moved back to England and was stationed in Harborne, Birmingham doing a lot of local, national and international youth ministry. In 1995 on the feast of the Annunciation, I was ordained a priest in my home parish of Dundee.

I was then moved to London to begin a new project for young people who wanted to do a "gap year" with involvement in our church at Hammersmith. I did this for four and half years and in 2000 I was asked to go to the parish in Hoxton Square to help with parish duties there and begin an MA in Lampeter University in Pastoral Liturgy. After six months I was asked to become the Parish Priest there. In 2005, I began a PGCE at Maryvale, Birmingham.

For the last five years, I have been a teacher of RE and Ethics in St. Martha's Senior School, High Barnet. During that time I have lived in Wood Green, South Harrow, Burnt Oak and now am settling in to Hounslow. I have also had the wonderful opportunity of serving the people in each of these places and in other parishes (e.g. Hoddesdon and Stonebridge) whenever there has been a need.

My hobbies are keeping fit (a gym is a must a few times in the week), watching tennis, meeting up with friends, cooking and the theatre.

Assistant Priest: Fr Kim Addison

Date of Ordination: 7 Jul 2012

Born: 13 Jan 1975 in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe

Having come to England to pursue a career in information technology, the last thing that I ever thought I would be doing 14 years later was starting out life as a newly ordained assistant priest in a parish, and yet here I am, in this wonderful parish of Hounslow.

For the last six years I have been in training at Allen Hall, the diocesan seminary, which is in Chelsea. It is at seminary that a priest learns philosophy, theology and is formed by the discernment process to become, hopefully, a priest that is able to work well in a parish. In reality though, this is when the real learning begins, as as priest, sent here to serve the people of the parish.

Over the next few years I look forward to learning to be a priest, with God’s grace a good priest, learning from the experiences of Fr Derek. As I learn the ropes and get used to this ministry I simply want to serve God and his people, my only desire is to remain faithful to this ministry and I leave the rest of this journey to God who has been ever faithful and ever will be.

I have been asked to include some of my hobbies:- I am a keen photographer and like to edit photographs and get them printed. I also am a bit of a technology enthusiast and I enjoy keeping abreast with the latest developments in technology, so reading technology websites features in my day. I am an avid sports follower and watch F1, cricket and football when I have the time. In the past I have played some cricket but I could not be described in any way as being a sportsman.
