Meeting Rooms

All meeting rooms will be equipped with a projector. We would like to kindly ask the meeting Chairs to coordinate with the presenters and have a laptop/computer for the meeting.

Recipients of the 2013 McGraw-Hill Distinguished Paper Award for paper entiltled, "Monetary Shocks Under 2008 Quantitative Easing Regime in United States" are Ali Ashraf, University of New Orleans and M. Kabir Hassan, University of New Orleans.

Recipient of the 2013 FBD Outstanding Educator Award is Elizabeth L. Rankin, Professor of Economics, Frost School of Business, Centenary College of Louisiana.

It is time to make your hotel reservations at the Hyatt Regency Houston if you have not done so.  The conference rate is available until February 14 so time is important.  Go to for more information.
You can also go to the FBD website to see all the programs for the ten business disciplines.  By paying your $75 FBD registration fee and registering for at least one other organization, you may attend all of the functions of any group except for meal functions or business meetings.  The exception, of course, is if you have more than one presentation for more than one association.  In that case, you should register for each association in which you present or wish to participate.
Events in the conference city are also important and you might wish to make some plans based on the following information:
The Hyatt Regency Houston is located adjacent to downtown Houston.  As the fourth largest city in the U.S., you will find a wide range of events and activities. Stay close to home at the hotel’s Shula Steak House and try the 48 oz  Porterhouse Steak.
New since our last visit in 2008 is the Houston Pavilions which is only a few blocks walking distance from the hotel and the site of several restaurants including the House of Blues.  It is also a developing entertainment district which includes some shopping. 
The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is in progress at Reliant Park.  It is a short ride on the METRO Rail ($2 round trip) to the show. Country artists Martina McBride (Wednesday), Rascal Flatts (Thursday), and Lady Antebellum (Friday) will be featured at the rodeo during our conference. Call 832-667-1080 or check for details.
Houston’s Galleria famed shopping center is also available for those seeking the perfect shopping opportunity.  The Hyatt Regency offers a shuttle to the Galleria.
The musical Billy Elliot is playing at the Hobby Center for Performing Arts. For details go to

Sleeping Beauty is being offered by the Houston Ballet on March 10.  Check for more information.
For hockey fans, The Manitoba Moose will be playing the Houston Aeros  at Toyota Center on March 11. See for details.

Setup for presentation rooms

All presentation rooms will have the computer projection system, a screen, and connections to hook up a PC-style laptop computer.  Connections for Apple may not be available so a participant planning to use an Apple computer needs to bring their own connections and cabling. I believe we should all contact our chairs to make arrangements regarding the availability of a mobile computer.
