Weekly Update September 19, 2014

Suzuki Royal Oak Institute of Music Weekly Update September 19th 2014

***SRO Online Presence***
  • Have you liked us on Facebook?
  • Have you checked out our website? All of our schedules, lesson sheets and review lists are available online. This is also a great link for you to send to friends who are interested in finding out more.
  • Do you have other ideas? Please contact me at mmutter@suzukiroyaloak.org if you would like to help out our media team.

***Positive Communication Techniques***
I heard that my columns didn’t turn out last week, so I’m redoing this one again.
Do Let’s listen to our fingers.                            Don’t That was out of tune.
Do Keep your eyes on your instrument.           Don’t Concentrate!
Do Let’s have a quiet body.                          Don’t Stand still.
Do Let’s play our instrument.                            Don’t Get out your instrument and practice!

A few helpful hints to start the year off right.

***Raising Independent Musicians***
Our goal in education is to foster independent learners. I will be giving seeking suggestions on how we as parents and teachers can help foster this in our children and students.
Bravo to all the families with children marching into SRO carrying their own instruments!!! Keep up the good work.

Building on last week’s Idea…
Each child should carry their instrument (except for pianos - they can carry their music) to and from lessons and group classes. This week I’d like to see them start to get their own instrument out of the case and rosin their own bow. Guitars can set up their stools and foot rests.

***Music Together Classes begin this week***
It’s not too late to sign up! Please invite your friends to come and check out a class this week. They can emailmusictogether@suzukiroyaloak.org for more information.

***Review Lists***
All review lists are on the website and ready for you to check out. We all plan our group class repertoire around these pieces so this is a great tool for your home review.

Have a great week.

Suzuki Royal Oak Institute of Music Weekly Update September 12th 2014

***SRO in the News***
Check out the article and please forward it to your friends and family.

***Graduation Recital this Sunday***
You are invited to the Graduation Recital of Miyo Fukuzawa. The recital will take place at SRO at 2:00 PM. Miyo will be performing one selection from all 8 Violin Books as well as a few selections from outside of the repertoire! Please join me in congratulating Miyo on this achievement and come support her in this beautiful concert.

***Positive Communication Techniques***
Do Don’t
Let’s listen to our fingers. That was out of tune.
Keep your eyes on your instrument. Concentrate!
Let’s have a quiet body. Stand still.
Let’s play our instrument. Get out your instrument and practice!

A few helpful hints to start the year off right.

***Raising Independent Musicians***
Our goal in education is to foster independent learners. I will be giving seeking suggestions on how we as parents and teachers can help foster this in our children and students.

Idea for the week…
Each child should start carrying their instrument (except for pianos - they can carry their music) to and from lessons and group classes.
I would love to see children helping their parents instead of mom or dad looking like a pack-mule carrying dinner, instruments, music, homework into the building.

***Music Together Classes begin the week of September 22nd***
I have attached the music together flier to this email for you to forward to friends and family.

***Review Lists***
I have attached all of the review lists to this email. Use this list to focus on what to practice during the week. Group class teachers use this list to pick pieces for class.
Pianists, Ms. Emberton will be giving you your review lists now that you are having group every week!

***Note taking sheets***
I have attached note taking sheets to this email for you to print and put in a binder. This will help keep your practice sessions productive at home.

Have a great week.

Mr. Mutter

Weekly Update May 19th 2014‏

Dear SRO Families,

Thank you for an amazing “Spring Fest.” The musical performances were exceptional, the dinner far out shined the pasta dinners of the past, the silent auction was a huge success, the cookie sale provided way too much sugar, and the bucket raffle made many a child happy.

Special thanks to Debbie and Rodney Johnson and Christine and Jim Schultz. They were the first to arrive and last to leave. Christine has been the auction chair for the last 5 years and its time for her to retire her acquisition forms. Please let me know if you are interested in either heading up the auction next year or serving on a planning team. You can contact me at mutter@suzukiroyaloak.org

SRO Wish List - thanks to all who donated so generously to the Wish List. You purchased 24 music stands, 1 vacuum cleaner, 1 changing table, 1 coffee maker, and 4 families have donated towards our new sign that will be placed outside our new building. I’m sure more items will pop up as we get closer to moving so I’ll keep you posted.

All uncollected and unsold items will be ready for pick on Monday and Wednesday this week at the Ice Cream Social. We will also be selling leftover t-shirts for $5.

There are still openings to attend the three following events:
May 31st (Saturday) - Bikram Parent and Child Yoga Class with Mr. Mutter - 12:00 to 1:00 PM. $10 per person and all proceeds go to SRO. Please contact me at mutter@suzukiroyaloak.org to reserve a spot.

June 7th (Saturday) - Hot Dog Picnic and Play-In with Mr. Mutter at the Jackson’s Home. - 12:00 to 2:00 PM. $15 per person and all proceeds go to SRO. Please contact me at mutter@suzukiroyaloak.org to reserve a spot.
