Toying Around with Yo-Yo's

posted Feb 2, 2012, 11:54 AM by sara bolduc

Our session on Wednesday, Feb. 1st we played with an all-time favorite toy, the Yo-Yo.  We just love yo-yo's and wanted to see if we could make our own out of materials we had around the clubhouse.

Here's what we found:
    - cardboard
    - metal washers
    - duct tape
    - string
    - wooden skewers
    - hot glue

There were lots of ideas and different combinations that we tried as we made the "best" yo-yo.  While not all our yo-yo's worked quite as well as we would have liked, we had a lot of fun!

Young Maker Club Mtg

Our second meeting started with a hands-on project.  We built our own "operation" game that buzzes and lights up when you fail to remove pieces without touching the container walls.  We learned how to solder and tested connectivity!

We brainstormed project ideas and have a few thoughts but nothing we're ready to share yet!  This Saturday we'll be attending the Open Make and are excited to see what other young makers in the area are planning.
