About Us

Sprowston Dementia Friendly Community is a local initiative allied with Broadland Dementia Action Alliance. We are a group of local people, made up of local Dementia Friend Champions, Town Councillors, Police and Church representatives, who all share a passion for Sprowston and an interest in Dementia. Our aim is to raise awareness of Dementia, and to allow people living with dementia within our community to feel safe, supported and valued. In Norfolk today an average of 1 in every 14 people are estimated to be living with Dementia, for every one person diagnosed at least three others are affected.

"All too often we hear that when people with dementia do find the courage to reach out, they are met with little or no response. If we are going to make an impact, remove stigma and enable people with dementia to be part of their communities then it’s vital that we all play a part. A few small adjustments can help communities to become dementia friendly. We need individuals, organisations, and yes, whole communities to gear up and face the challenge." (Angela Rippon)

We have also set up and will continue to hold the Sprowston Community Dementia Café, running on the third Thursday of every month at the Diamond Centre, School Lane between 10 and 12 am. The cafe offers a friendly meeting place for families and carers who are living with Dementia. Carers are welcome to attend with or without their loved ones. During the sessions there will be a chance for carers to meet and make new friends, we will offer occasional speakers and professional advice as well as coffee and biscuits and other activities! Plenty of volunteers are on hand to assist. No booking needed just turn up, wheelchair friendly and free car parking.

If you are a local business, or organisation such as a youth group, WI, school etc and would like more information or wish to hold a Dementia awareness session, or just an individual who would just like to know more or join us then please message us for further information. We would also be pleased to offer any advice on making your premises more Dementia Friendly.
