Students at Granite Oaks and Spring View Middle Schools experience many transitions during their 7th and 8th grade school years. One of the transitions middle school students face is homework from multiple teachers in different subjects. For some students this is their first glimpse into the world of high school expectations; homework every night to ensure their success at learning the essential concepts for each subject. On September 22, 2010 at 3:30 Granite Oaks and Spring View are hosting Mr. Doug Newman, Huntington Learning Center, in the Spring View Library to speak to the challenges of homework from a parent perspective. Mr. Newman’s presentation has been well received by parents not only at the middle schools but also elementary schools in the Rocklin Unified School District. Please join the counselors at both Granite Oaks and Spring View as we welcome Mr. Newman back to share his insights into successful homework completion. See you on September 22, 2010 in the Spring View Library, 5040 Fifth Street.

With the budget cuts for the 2010-2011 school year, Spring View Middle School has lost one full time counselor; the current schedule is as follows:

Ms. Sneed     Monday through Friday at Spring View Middle School

Ms. Elston     Tuesday and Thursday (all day), Friday (am) at Spring View Middle School
In an effort to accommodate the new counselor schedule for Spring View Middle School, we are suggesting parents and family members use e-mail, when possible, as a way to communicate with counselors, especially Ms. Elston. Telephone contact is always welcome but maybe a bit more difficult to respond to in an expedient manner.

Thank you in advance for your patience and support.

Ms. Sneed     8th grade Counselor

Ms. Elston    7th grade Counselor
