Common Questions Corner

If you need help.....
•Please go through your Building Rep first!
•You can also contact your Grade Level Representative with questions/concerns (See the Executive Board page).
Why do we ask you to do this?
•We would like to establish a “chain of command” for any questions/comments so not everything flows straight to the district-wide level.
•Judy is incredibly busy with bargaining, the CLASS Project, meetings, and other association business.
•If you are uncomfortable going through your Building Rep for any reason, or your question or concern needs to be brought to Judy’s attention
immediately, please do not hesitate to call or e-mail her.

Budget, Facilities Recommendations, Staffing Concerns:

From the President:

I know many of you have concerns regarding the impacts of budget reductions, facilities recommendations and staffing. In case you did not have the opportunity to read the email I sent on January 25th, I would like to share some of the information that was sent as well as direct you to the web page that has been set up with information by the district on the facilities committee recommendations.

Many of you are very concerned about staff lay offs and reassignments due to the budget as well as the facilities recommendations.  It is important that you know that SEA will be working closely with the district on the impact to staff due to decisions that would require lay offs and/or reassignments.  We have specific contract language dealing with these issues and we will follow the contract.  If you want to review the contract, you may access it on the Springfield School District web site and you will find language under Article XXIII Reduction in Staff (pages 53-57).   At this time, there is much we do not know and none of us can give you answers to questions about your specific position or situation.  The district’s budgeting process is just beginning, programs and staffing levels for next year have not been determined, the school board will not be making a decision on the facilities committee recommendations until the end of February or early March, and this is a bargaining year.  All of these factors have an impact.  You are always welcome to contract me if you want to talk or ask questions.  However, I may not be able to give you specific information or have many answers at this time, but I would be happy to listen.  As information becomes available, I will make sure to communicate with staff.
