Project Updates

Mission: Evolution logo available

Thanks to the very hard work of Hannah, with lots of feedback from classmates, we now have a logo to help us "brand" the project. We plan to use the logo for all the materials being created for the project that will be highlighted here as well as shared through other sites.

Of course, additional feedback on the logo design is welcome as we may have missed something seeing that we're so close to the project.

Obviously, the current site is fairly generic using available templates for themes, layouts, and designs. Our goal is to soon incorporate elements of the logo into the website as well so that we can use Hannah's creative skills to their fullest.

Spring Game Design Workshops Have Begun!

Starting Monday, January 31, 2011 students in Mrs. Beidler's class formally began designing games in Spore Galactic Adventures. The team from Virginia Tech was on hand to assist with identifying science concepts and providing informal instruction on building fun, yet challenging games.

To the left is a photo of a very early visual treatment of a game story and basic mechanics brainstormed by Mel - he's wanting to describe how migration to new climates my evoke evolutionary change in creature traits. He worked with Michael to think about how to turn a simple story of getting from Point A to Point B into a more game-like experience where skillful choices would be rewarded and the element of time could be used to create a sense urgency to move the player through the game.

As the semester progresses, we will share additional updates on the designs and development prototypes.
Mel's first attempt to visual his game, codenamed "Winter Solstice".
