Spencer Pointe Elementary & Spencer Crossing Intermediate
New Lenox, IL
Miss Nicholson, Room A207
Our art curriculum at New Lenox School District includes inventive art lessons based on the elements (line, shape, color, form, texture, value, space) and principles (balance, unity, movement, rhythm, pattern, contrast, emphasis) of design and are also inspired by the works of famous artists. We also spend a portion of each year learning about the art of other cultures. Each grade level focuses on a different culture and creates works of art that are culturally inspired.
Each student will be introduced to various types of media. Included are the following: drawing, painting, collage, fibers, printmaking and the use of 3-dimensional media (clay, paper mache, etc.)
It is important for parents to serve as an encouraging guide in their child's artistic development. There are many ways to further their creative endeavors, including but not limited to, visiting art museums or galleries, providing art materials at home or simply just displaying your child's artwork.
As the art teacher....
My goal as the art teacher at Spencer Campus is to help students learn about art -- how to create it, how to enjoy looking at it and to gain knowledge about famous artists and other cultures.
