DNG4PS-2 Mac OS X build

DNG4PS-2 is a very useful application for converting RAW files produced by CHDK enhanced PowerShot cameras to the Adobe DNG format. It is also open source and cross platform, with Linux and Windows binaries available from the official site. Below is a link to a GNU Make Makefile that can be used for building DNG4PS-2 on Mac OS X.

The current version has only been tested with Mac OS X 10.4.x, but the build process might also work on other versions of Mac OS X. There are known incompatibilities with Mac OS X 10.5.x, but there's a good chance that support will be added in the near future.

Just to clarify – I did not write DNG4PS-2 myself. I just made it build on Mac OS X. If you want to praise the original author, contact details can be found on the official site.

Instructions for building from source

  1. Install XCode (should be bundled with your mac or OS, otherwise download from Apple)
  2. Install MacPorts by following the instructions on http://www.macports.org
  3. Using MacPorts, install wxWidgets, boost and gettext
    • e.g. % port install wxWidgets boost gettext
  4. Download and uncompress a DNG4PS-2 source package from http://code.google.com/p/dng4ps2/
    • Only 0.2.2 beta releases have been tested, but other versions might also work
  5. Download the Makefile (current version: 0.1) and copy it to the DNG4PS-2 'src' folder
  6. If you installed MacPorts to another directory than '/opt/local/', edit the DARWINPORTS_ROOT variable in the Makefile to reflect the custom install path
  7. Compile and package dng4ps-2.app by running % make from the command line

Prerelease binaries

Or... if you don't feel like building from source, just download a preliminary universal binary package based on a slightly modified 0.2.2beta-24 here. Basic functionality has been verified to work on Mac OS X 10.4.11 running on both Intel and PowerPC based machines. Known problems include broken Norwegian language support, crashes while using the calibration dialog and random crashes on Mac OS X 10.5.x. I'm hoping to fix these issues soon. Oskar Lindell kindly contributed the new icon included in this release.
