In the early 1900's, Grinnell was widely known as the home of Spaulding Mfg.  Co., makers of buggies.  The company made over 10,000 vehicles per year and employed 300 men.

Henry W.  Spaulding was born in Vermont, on June 29, 1846, and relocated in Grinnell in April of 1876.  Henry's son and eventually partner in the maufacturing business built our home from 1906-7.
