About the Venues

Leeson House field studies centre, Dorset

Leeson House

Set in a grade 2 listed manor house near Swanage, Leeson is almost a household name in education. It provides a wide variety of residential and day courses for gifted and talented students. It is also home to the truly mad science workshops of of John Winder. Leeson house is run by Dorset County Council.

Leeson House also hosts The Mad-Lab, our very own Makerspace. A veritable wonderland for young inventors, tinkerers and engineers. Set in an old Victorian dairy, it is completely different from any learning environment the students will have encountered. Full of all sorts of materials both new and recycled and decorated with bizarre projects and experiments (often failed) it provides the inspiration and resources to turn pupils imaginations into reality (and home to Boris the spider).

Now revamped with full PC/electronics suite with 12 student workstations (Windows, Linux and Raspberry Pi) all networked with Southwest Grid For Learning to allow instant online presentation of work.
To assist in the increasing demand for electronics and programming there are even circuit board manufacture facilities, a tiny laser engraver and when required, a 3d printer.

As of July 2014 ALL Leeson House Gifted and Talented Course bookings will go through Spaceexplorers.co.uk . The majority of the offerings will be day courses however for special events there WILL be residential bookings with Space Explorers Academy booking into venues just as any school might do.

Kilve Court, Somerset

Kilve court is a larger centre just past the Quantocks and hosts both enrichment programs and out door activities.
It has full CCTV  coverage and a whole host of facilities including a most ENORMOUS field which makes it ideal for teaching ballistics and projectiles.

Your Venue

Many of the courses and workshops can be run at a venue of your choice, whether it is a school, hall or conference centre. As long as it has the basic amenities required then anywhere is a possibility.
