Southport Chess Club  meets every Tuesday evening in the Mount Pleasant Hotel. The Junior Section commences at 6pm and the Senior Section runs between 7:30pm and 10:30pm.

In the Senior Section of the club you can partake in friendly games against other members with a broad range of ability. Competitions are held throughout the year ranging from one-night Lightning or Blitz tournaments through to all-against-all competitions running over several months.

We have  three  teams in the Merseyside League and we also compete in Merseyside Cup and Lightning Competitions.

If you are interested in playing Chess on a friendly or competitive basis, just turn up to the Club any Tuesday evening to give it a try. You can attend for three times before deciding to become a Club member.

In the Junior Section of the club structured tuition is provided to develop the chess skills and competences of the members, who also participate in friendly games and competitive tournaments.

We have a Junior team in Division 5 of the Merseyside League, some Junior members play in the Senior teams and we also compete in other tournaments in the region.

The Junior Club is also a a Learning Destination for the Children’s University.
