Final bow

As we end the school year and my tenure as your Booster President, I want to reiterate the many thank yous to all those who have made the past eight years so very special.  I will take with me so many wonderful and heartfelt memories and lasting friendships.  I do feel great comfort in knowing that the leadership of the Boosters will be in the strong and very capable hands of Mr. John Gereski.  We have come a long way in the relatively short life of South County and I am so very confident that John will help carry our theatre programs to yet higher levels.

As our latest crop of Seniors set off down their next path of life, let me wish you all the best of luck in college or whatever you choose to do.  You are an amazing group of young people and I have enjoyed watching you all grow these past years.  I leave you with the words of Vince Lombardi, "perfection is not attainable but if we chase perfection we can catch excellence."

Congratulations Cappie Nominees and Winners

Congratulations to our ten Cappie nominees and our four Cappie winners!  Les Miserables was a most entertaining and touching show allowing you all to showcase your talents.  We are all so proud of your accomplishments!

Congratulations to the MS on Hairspray, Jr.!  What a fun show and some fine performances.  Everyone had a great time and walked out the door singing. Ms. Rose, Mr. Null, Mr. Scott, well done.  Your hard work really paid off.  Cast and Crew should be very proud of yourselves for a really entertaining performance.

Welcome Back

It seems that summer always flies by us; here we are again at Stallion Stampede, my last as a SoCo parent and as your Booster President.  Lots of plans already in the works including our annual trip to New York City in March.  Lets see now, last year was rain, the year before was perfect, and the year before that it snowed.  Wonder what mother nature will have in store for us this time?  No matter, the trip is always fun and the shows are great!

Although on an interim basis, let me welcome back Mr. Dale Rumberger.  I always enjoy his wit, wisdom, and the sound of his voice.  Mr. Rumberger is a great supporter of SoCo Theatre programs.  I guess you can go home again, even it is only for a little while.

Stop by the Theatre Booster table at Stallion Stampede and say hello.

Here We Go

The summer flew by so quickly and we are off on a new school year and exciting performing arts season.  Great shows planned for both the MS and HS.  If you are interested in theater, whether on the stage or behind the scenes, go see Mrs. McCormally at the High School or Mrs. Rose at the Middle School.  There is something for everyone!

Its Almost Here

Its just amazing how quickly time goes.  After all the planning, scheduling  etc. we leave for our yearly trip to The Big Apple Friday morning.  Despite growing up in New York, going to college there, working there, and visiting pretty frequently, I still get excited about this trip.  The kids just bring so much energy and a sense of discovery and wonder that it is really a fun weekend for me.  Tiring but fun.  If you can imagine "The Jets" dancing their way down 46th Street last year, you might get the picture.  Really looking forward to Jersey Boys too.

And Away We Go...

That famous line uttered by the great comedian Jackie Gleason just says it all.  We begin the school year with our Middle School in their own building with their own space.  I'm sure Ms. Rose won't miss the battle for stage time in the auditorium.

Lots of things planned for the new year and it looks to be another exciting year.  If you haven't been involved with theater before, what are you waiting for?  Go find Ms. Rose at the Middle School or Ms. McCormally at the High School and get involved.  Check out the Callboard for important dates and announcements.

Parents, we have a few spots to fill on our Booster Board.  Please drop an email to president@southcounty theatre.org if you are interested in serving, volunteering, donating, etc.

Another year flys by

Hard to believe just how fast this past school year flew by us.  It doesn't seem like nine months since Stallion Stampede.  However, this truly was a great year for SoCo Theatre.  Some great productions topped off with seven "Cappie" award nominations and our own Jets singing and dancing on the stage of the Kennedy Center.  Congratulations to Nikko Custodio for winning the Male Dancer "Cappie" in his role as Riff!

Have a happy and restful summer and recharge your batteries.  September is only three months away!

Full Stride

Finally have a chance to update my blog.  The NY City trip was just fantastic!  I'm still humming tunes from Anything Goes; Cole Porter music is hard to beat.  Sure wish I could dance like that (as anyone who remembers Damn Yankees will tell you, that isn't happening).

Its been a very busy Spring.  Twelfth Night, performed in the round, was a really nice production.  Kudos to Mrs. Rose for taking that on.  We are only a couple of weeks out on West Side Story, our HS Spring musical and Cappies show.  Leonard Bernstein music and Stephen Sondheim lyrics make for such a wonderful interpretation of the classic love story.

Congratulations to our Seniors who have been receiving college acceptances.  We are all very proud of you and look forward to seeing you all climb to new heights in the future!

In The Swing

posted Feb 15, 2012, 6:35 PM by South County Theatre Boosters

We are really in the swing of things now.  Senior show, middle school show, New York trip  and auditions of the spring musical.  I'm running out of breath just writing it all.  Just so much going on.  And the Thespian banquet is only four months away.  We also have a workshop scheduled March 3rd for our local elementary school students so they can get a feeling for what middle and high school theater is about.

As you can tell by my previous posts, I am really excited to be leading my second New York City trip.  I was just in New York and Times Square is just so full of energy and excitement.  I am sure that everyone is going to have a blast.  If you are going on the trip, make sure that you have comfortable shoes as we will be doing plenty of "hoofing" around.  Flip flops will just not cut it.

Stop in and find out how YOU can become a part of our thriving theater community!
