Sousa vs. Strauss; Juke Box Investigation

This lesson is intended for 6th grade general music students.

Students will use The Library of Congress’ Juke Box to compare and investigate the “March King” and the “Waltz King,” they will listen to six specific songs composed by Johann Strauss and John Philip Sousa. They will describe one song that they choose, using the Music Description Sheet. After students have filled out their song’s description sheet they will trade with another student group and try to find the song described on the description sheet.
