With the International Day for Biological Diversity taking place on 22nd May, we launched the challenge: record the sounds of biodiversity. We want to create a sonic snapshot of biodiversity by carrying out the largest possible number of recordings.

We invite you to make recordings of animal sounds in Portugal from the 14-27 May and to contribute to capture a acoustic snapshot of biodiversity.
We also intend to create a sound installation that will be played at the National Museum of Natural History (in Lisbon)  associated with the "Collections of Naturalists " exhibition. The initiative is aimed to celebrate the diversity of animal sounds all arround.

 In summary:

Idea?
Making recordings in various regions of Portugal to produce an instant sound, a sort of acoustic satellite image. The more recordings, the better!

When?
Between 14 and 27 May.

We recommend choosing a theme, which may be the location or species, and what should happen in the best period, for example post-sunset or sunrise-sunset. Any time will be accepted, it is only a recommendation.
One or a set of recordings that depict the theme, 2 minutes to 30 minutes. soundscape recording or focal.

Where?
The recordings should be performed in a natural setting where human influence does not overlap with all other sounds.

How?
Through any recording equipment, provided that it is possible to deliver them via the Internet or email the file produced preferably in uncompressed format (WAV or AIFF). We will need to know the location, date and time, focal species and equipment.

How do I know if I'm recording a habitat / local already registered?
We have created an online document that each writer can see which habitats or places that other writers have already done or plan to do. Do not worry because the recordings are always welcome.

And after recording?
Send us
(Projecto.sonsdosanimais@gmail.com) your recordings up to 15th June. At the beginning of July we will have the sound installation in the exhibition.

Share your recordings!
Since the aim is to make a public address system and put it on public display, it is necessary to authorize the use for this purpose. So when you send your recordings is giving consent, the transfer of entitlements, the project team to edit and use the recordings submitted for public display. The use may include the development of content for Internet or other purposes. Credits recording will always be recognized. We would also like to include your recordings in the archive of acoustic landscapes we're doing if that is your will should include the following paragraph of donation.

"In relation to the recordings sent to the initiative" animal sounds ", I agree to transfer my copyright for the project" natural acoustic landscapes in a changing world "and allow any use of them. This transfer does not include any restriction of my use of my recordings. "

You can also choose the Creative Commons system.

The recordings should respect the ethics and be responsible.
