(iii) Unconventional severe plastic deformation techniques like Equal channel angular pressing (ECAP), Multi-axial forging (MAF), Accumulative roll bonding (ARB), Friction stir processing/welding (FSP/FSW), High pressure torsion (HPT), High pressure tube twisting (HPTT) and High pressure torsion extrusion (HPTE).
2. Microstructure and texture characterization:
(a) Optical microscopy
(b) X-Ray Diffraction for phase analysis, crystallite size, dislocation density, residual stress measurements(c) SEM-Imaging,
(c) Electron-back scattered diffraction in SEM.
(d) TEM imaging and diffraction exp, and
(e) X-ray Texture analysis
3. Mechanical property evolution
(i) Tensile testing, compression testing, HCF, LCF, Creep tests, FCGR growth and Fracture toughness studies are done. We have Instron ElectroPulse UTM, Zwick-roell UTM, Rumul Fatigue testing M/cs.
(ii) Instrumental nano-indentation, Micro-hardness, Rockwell and Brinell hardness tests
4. Modeling and Simulations
Polycrystalline plasticity simulation techniques are developed and used to predict the deformation induced strain hardening behavior, texture, twin variant selection and their volume fraction, interaction boundaries - coincident site lattice boundaries and the deformation mechanism .
