CONGRATS TO ALL FINISHERS!! THANK YOU TO ALL SAG AND VOLUNTEERS WHO HELPED MAKE THIS LONGEST DAY A SUCCESS.
THANK YOU TO THOSE OF YOU THAT SENT IN PICTURES:
This ride begins in High Point, NJ, the northern and highest point in New Jersey (technically, Montague, NJ - High Point is the name of the park). You can start whenever you want but most riders start at or before sunrise (aprox. 5:30 a.m.). The idea is to arrive in Cape May, the southern most tip, before sunset (aprox 8:30 p.m.). Thereby crossing the entire state of New Jersey, 208 miles in 1 day. There are also routes for double metric (starting in East Millstone, 125 miles) and century (starting in Allentown, 100 miles) available. To see the entire (tentative) route click here (or if you prefer the bikely program click here).
You must be a CJBC member (only $15) to ride in this event. To join CJBC go back to the CJBC home page and click on Join Us!
The registration deadline was May 14, 2008, so the ride is now closed if have not already sent in your registration form. There are 113 riders this year. I sent a confirming email once I received your registration form and check in the mail, please email me if you did not receive a confirming email and you think you are registered. The fee is $35 and covers the costs of running the event and provides you with a cue sheet, discounted rates for a hotel near the starting point and finishing point, breakfast the following morning and a polo shirt. It is strongly suggested that you ride with a group and each group MUST have its own "SAG wagon".
Hopefully you already reserved your hotel rooms, but here is the information: Comfort Inn, 2247 Greenville Turnpike, Port Jervis, NY 888-330-6611; Regal Plaza Beach Resort, 9501 Atlantic Avenue, Wildwood Crest, NJ 609-522-5670.
For the first time, this year there will be The Longest Day Jerseys also available. Below is a picture of the jersey. In order to receive your jersey by the ride date you needed to have submited your jersey order by March 14, 2008. If I receive your jersey order after this date, you may not have your jersey for the ride date. Jerseys ordered after March 14, 2008 if not ready by the ride date will be available for a free pick-up at a to be announced CJBC meeting in Edison, NJ or there may be an additional charge for shipping to your home address (I will email you to confirm the details). The jerseys are made by Primal Wear they will be Club Cut with a 3/4 hidden zipper and 3 rear cargo pockets. They will be constructed of ProSensor, "a high quality sports specific fabric which provides exceptional comfort and moisture management attributes."
Thank you to everyone who came to the pre-ride meeting this year on May 8, 2008 at 7:30 pm at the Stelton Community Center in Edison, NJ. Hopefully those that are new to this ride found it helpful.
Please contact me, William "Sandy" Somers, at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any other questions about this event.
I've created a spreadsheet that allows you to plug in your planned starting time, average speed, break and lunch times on the top, and the spreadsheet will give you what time you'll be at certain towns along the route. Click here for the spreadsheet: LongestDayConvertedSpreadsheet.xls. I got the idea to do a spreadsheet from the first link below.
