Some of the Parts

The Group

What do Lord Byron, Jimmy Dorsey, Dinah Shore, and Tempest Storm all have in common? They were all born on February 29. And they all loved or made great music (or danced to it). So, come on out in honor of all the “leaplings” you know and help fight calendar drift by celebrating the leap year at Roland Park Country School Sinex Theater with a sparkling evening of a cappella singing and shenanigans. Mark your Gregorian calendars for an unforgettable night of fine a cappella music, hosted by Baltimore's own a cappella sextet, Some of the Parts.

Joining SOTP will be the University of Maryland Generics, the most dynamic all-male a cappella singing group on the College Park campus. Don't be fooled by their name–a Generics performance is anything but your typical a cappella show. Known far and wide for their exciting performance style, smooth background harmonies, and powerful soloists, the Generics promise an ever-exciting concert and a great time for their audiences. The Generics sing an always exciting collection of rock, hip-hop, R&B, oldies, classics, and the hits of the 80's, 90's, and today!

Also joining SOTP will be the Chromatics. This group of techies (engineers, scientists, computer geeks, and NASA employees) performs pop and rock covers and original songs inspired by our modern world. The World Wide Web, television, and fast food - all are subjects of Chromatics' originals. The Chromies have also written astronomically-correct a cappella songs to be used in classrooms for a project called AstroCappella. The Chromatics have presented AstroCappella from Palm Springs, California to Orlando, Florida, from Las Vegas to Space Day on the Washington DC Mall, had their lyrics quoted in the New York Times and their CD has flown in space! No kidding! The Chromatics have presented their "normal" repertoire at the Kennedy Center's Millennium Stage, at First Night Annapolis, at the 1996 and 1999 Atlantic Region Harmony Sweepstakes (where they took 3rd place in 1999), the National Anthem for the Baltimore Orioles (1996 and 1997), and holiday music at the White House's candlelight tours (1996).
