Prophet Shuaib (Shu’aib Shu'ayb Shu'eyb Shoaib Sho’aib) and Prophet Jethro.

Comment 1. There has been some disagreement in Islam if Prophet Shuaib is Prophet Jethro.

Comment 2. There has been some debate about the time period in which Shuaib lived.

Comment 3. Shuaib can be placed between Lot (Lut, Loot, Lout) and Moses (Musa, Moosa, Moshe) both in Quran chapter 7 and in Quran 11.89.

Quran 11:89 O my people, do not let your opposition to me make you guilty so that what might happen to you is the same as what happened to the people of Noah (Noah, Nuh, Noe, Noyach), or the people of Hud (Eber), or the people of Salih. The people of Lot (Lut, Loot, Lout) are (located) not far away from you (so be warned).

Comment 4. The messenger after Shuaib is Moses (Musa) in Quran 7:103 so Shuaib and Moses (Musa) existed in adjacent times and that makes it possible that they could have met each other if they lived at the same time.

Comment 5. Shuaib and Jethro (also known as Reuel) could have been the same person because it is known that Moses (Musa, Moosa, Moshe) lived with Jethro for 8 or 10 years.

Comment 6. Some might say that Quran 7:89 shows that God destroyed Midian (Maydan) before the time of Moses (Musa, Moosa, Moshe) but it is possible that the story of Shuaib started earlier and then the story of Moses (Musa, Moosa, Moshe) started later at a time when Midian had not yet been destroyed. This is confirmed because Moses (Musa, Moosa, Moshe) lived in Midian before he was sent by God to ask the Pharaoh (King) of Egypt to release the Children of Egypt (See comment 7). Midian (Maydan) was located on the eastern edge of the Gulf of Aqaba (today north western Saudi Arabia) and in the Sinai Peninsula.

Comment 7. The story of Prophet Jethro (Reuel), a priest of Midian (Madyan) meeting Prophet Moses (Musa, Moosa, Moshe) is in Quran 28:22 – 28:29. This story confirms that Prophet Moses (Musa, Moosa, Moshe) lived for many years in Midian (Madyan) with Prophet Jethro (Reuel) and that Prophet Moses (Musa, Moosa, Moshe) married one of Jethro’s daughters (Zipporah) in Quran 20:40 and 28:22 – 28:29. Both the Quran (that does not name the man in Midian with Prophet Moses) and the Torah (Taurat, that names the man in Midian with Prophet Moses as Reuel) reveal the same story in Quran 20:40 and 28:22 – 28:29 and in the Torah (Old Bible, Old Testament in Exodus 2:15 – 3:6).

Comment 8. Some verses discussing the destruction of the people of Midian list Midian before Moses and some after Moses. Comment 6 and 7 show that Midian (Madyan) still existed in the time of Prophet Moses and in Quran 28:44 - 28:45 Prophet Moses is mentioned first and then Midian (Madyan) is mentioned after Moses. This might be because the earthquake destruction of Midian in the Quran is in one town and not all of Midian.

Quran 28:44 And you (Prophet Mohamed, Prophet Muhammad) were not on the western side (of the Mountain) when We (God) told Prophet Moses (Musa, Moosa, Moshe) the command (to take God’s message “to free the children of Israel from slavery” to the Pharaoh King of Egypt) nor where you a witness.

Quran 28:45 But We produced (many) generations (after Prophet Moses), and their duration (of their civilisations) was long. And you (Prophet Muhammad) were not a resident among the people of Midian (Madyan), reciting to them Our verses, but We (God) were the senders (of messengers to them).

Comment 9. Quran 28:45 shows that over time, God has sent many messengers to the people of Midian (Madyan).

Comment 10. It is known that Jethro was the father of the daughter Zipporah that he gave to Moses (Musa, Moosa, Moshe) in marriage so Jethro was older than Moses (Musa, Moosa, Moshe).

Comment 11. Jethro was an Arab sheik and priest in Midian with special insight who advised Prophet Moses (Musa, Moosa, Moshe) about delegating authority for small matters of Justice to some of the people among the 12 tribes of the children of Israel so Jethro appears well placed in time and knowledge to be Shuaib.

Comment 12. It is clear that Jethro had special knowledge and he was helping Moses (Musa, Moosa, Moshe).

Comment 13. Moses (Musa, Moosa, Moshe) was one of the few prophets to have the honour of talking directly with God so Jethro must have been specially gifted by God to be able to help Moses (Musa, Moosa, Moshe) in so many ways. Jethro was related to Moses (Musa, Moosa, Moshe) by being the father-in-law to Moses (Musa, Moosa, Moshe) (see comment 7) and Jethro was an advisor to Moses (Musa) (see comment 11).

Comment 14. Jethro spent most of his time in Midian as a priest.

Comment 15. It is known that Jethro was a sheik and this respected family status is also given to the family of Shuaib in Quran 11:91 – 11:92.

Quran 11:91 They (the people of Midian) said, “O Shuaib, We do not understand much of what you say and we see you are weak (in the number of your believers) among us, and were it not for your family (statues) we would surely stone you (to death). You are not strong (in followers) against us.

Quran 11:92 He (Shuaib) said, “O my people, is my family more respected by you than (your respect for) God? You neglect Him (God) like something (useless) that you can throw away behind your back, (but you cannot throw God away because) surely my Lord encompasses what you do (meaning, God is present with you and He sees everything and knows everything you do).

Comment 16. The story of the people of Midian, Shuaib warns the people to trade fairly and not to cheat men of what is theirs and not to make mischief in the land in Quran 7:86 and 11:85, their was idol worship in Quran 7:88 and 11:87, do not wait to block the paths and threaten people that travel to the places for the worship of God and remember how your population was small and how your population grew in Quran 7:86, the people said they would stone to death Prophet Shuaib if his family did not have such a high statues in Quran 11:91, the people of Midian were killed by an earthquake as a punishment from God in Quran 7:91 and 11.94, Shuaib and those that believed in God were saved from the destruction in Quran 11.94 and 7:93, The people of Midian disappeared just like the people of Thumad had disappeared in Quran and 11.95.

Comment 17. The story of the people of Midian (and Shuaib) occurred after the story of the people of Thamud (and Salih) in both Quran chapter 7 and Quran 11:95.

Quran 11:95 (After God’s punishment it was) as though they had not lived there. (The people of) Midian (in a wicked town) were gone (from sight), just like (the people of) Thamud (in another wicked town) had gone (in earlier times).

Comment 18. The sequence of people to whom Allah (God) sent messengers to warn of their destruction if they did not stop their misbehavior were the people of Noah (Prophet Noah, Nuh, Noe, Noyach) and the people of A’ad (’Ad, Ad, Prophet Hud) and the people of Thamud (Samood, Prophet Salih), and the people of Abraham (Prophet Ibrahim) and the people that lived in Madyan (Prophet Shuaib) and the overthrown cities in Quran 9:70.

Comment 19. Another sequence of people to whom God sent messengers to warn of their destruction if they did not stop their misbehavior were the people of Nuh and A’ad (‘Ad, Ad) and Thamud (Samood), And the people of Ibrahim and the people of Lut, And Midian (Maydan) and Moses (Musa) and how many towns did We (God) destroy while they did evil, so that you can see them today in ruins and how many deserted wells and deserted high castles in Quran 22:42 – 22:45.

Comment 20. Shuaib warns his people that those that had already been warned and destroyed were the people of Prophet Noah (Nuh), the people of Prophet Hud (A’ad, ‘Ad, Ad), the people of Prophet Salih (Thamud, Samood), and the people of Prophet Lot (Lut, Sodom) who used to live not far away from Midian (in the time of Prophet Shuaib) in Quran 11:89.

Comment 21. Some verses discussing the destruction of the people of Midian list Midian before Prophet Moses (Musa, Moosa, Moshe) and some after Prophet Moses (Musa, Moosa, Moshe) (see comment 8).

Comment 22. The Jewish Torah in “Numbers” Chapter 25 and 31 describes God’s punishment to Midian as happening during the time of Moses (Musa, Moosa, Moshe). This places Jethro in Midian during its destruction.

Some of the children of Israel married Midianites and adopted their idol worship so God commanded Prophet Moses (Musa, Moosa, Moshe) to punishment them and destroy the Midianites. This destruction was hand to hand combat and not an earthquake.

Comment 23. When verses in the Quran appear unclear to us Quran 3:7 – 3:8 tells us:

Quran 3:7 It is He (God) who has sent down to you (Prophet Mohamed) the Book (this Quran). In it are revelations that are entirely clear, they are the foundations of the Book (God’s commandments, the duties of mankind and the laws), and other (revelations that, to you, might) not (be) entirely clear. As for those in whose hearts there is a deviation (from the truth) they shall follow that which is not entirely clear (for them in the Quran) seeking to mislead (the ignorant through arguments and confusion) and seeking to give it (their own) interpretation, but no one knows its true interpretation except God. And those who are firmly grounded in knowledge say, "We believe in it and all (the clear revelations and some that for us might seem unclear revelations) are from our Lord." Only men with understanding (when they see what is for them unclear revelations in the Quran) shall remember (to ask God for guidance) (Continued in Quran 3:8).

Quran 3:8  (They ask), "Our Lord, don’t let our hearts deviate (from the truth by making false interpretations of the Quran) after You have guided us (to the truth), and grant us your mercy. You are the giver (of everything that exists)."

Comment 24. With the advice of Quran 3:7 – 3:8 in mind, I ask, “Can we accept the story from the Torah that the father in-law of Prophet Moses (Musa) from Midian is Prophet Jethro (Reuel) as named in comment 7.”

Comment 25. Can we use the Torah to confirm what is in the Quran?

See: Allah (God) protects His Quran, His Torah (Tawrah, Tawrat, Taurat, Tavrat) and His Gospel (Injil, Injeel, Enjil, Enjeel, Al-Enjeel).

Allah (God) confirms in the Quran that His Quran, His Torah (Tawrah, Tawrat, Taurat, Tavrat) and His Gospel (Injil, Injeel, Enjil, Enjeel, Al-Enjeel) are protected by Him.

Is the Quran protected by Allah (God)?

Is the Torah (Tawrah, Tawrat, Taurat, Tavrat) protected by Allah (God)?

Is the Gospel (Injil, Injeel, Enjil, Enjeel, Al-Enjeel) protected by Allah (God)?

Can the Torah (Tawrah, Tawrat, Taurat, Tavrat) be used to confirm what is in the Quran?

Can the Quran be used to confirm what is in the Torah (Tawrah, Tawrat, Taurat, Tavrat)?

Can the Gospel (Injil, Injeel, Enjil, Enjeel, Al-Enjeel) be used to confirm what is in the Quran?

Can the Quran be used to confirm what is in the Gospel (Injil, Injeel, Enjil, Enjeel, Al-Enjeel)?

Comment 26. By reading God’s Torah and God’s Quran we can say that both the Quran that does not name the man in Midian with Prophet Moses and the Torah (Taurat) that names the man in Midian with Prophet Moses as Prophet Reuel (Prophet Jethro) reveal exactly the same story in Quran 20:40 and 28:22 – 28:29 and in the Torah (Old Bible, Old Testament in Exodus 2:15 – 3:6).

Comment 27. By reading God’s Torah and God’s Quran we learn that Prophet Reuel (Prophet Jethro) lived when Midian was destroyed by God’s order but this was not an earthquake as mentioned for Prophet Shuaib in comment 22.

Comment 28. By reading God’s Quran we learn that God has sent many messengers to the people of Midian (Madyan) in comment 9. This is confirmed in God’s Torah where another Minianite man named Balaam had the gift of prophecy of the future from God in the Torah (Old Bible, Old Testament, Numbers 22:8 – 24:24). That man correctly foretold of his death and the death of many others as a result of God’s anger with them.

Comment 29. Using the guidance from God in Quran 3:7 – 3:8 we are now guided (God willing) to make the following as our safest conclusion that shall be based on the lack of evidence of a punishment related to an earthquake in the Torah and the difference in the numbers of the people involved in God’s punishment of the Midian people which appears were fewer in the case of Prophet Shuaib (involving people in a town) in the Quran story compared to the Midian people (involving a large number of people over a wide area) in the time of Prophet Reuel (Prophet Jethro) and Prophet Moses in the Torah story.

Comment 31.
In comment 7 and comment 26 it is confirmed by the Torah that Prophet Jethro (Reuel) is the unnamed man whose daughters meet Prophet Moses (Musa, Moosa, Moshe) in Quran 20:40 and 28:22 – 28:29

Comment 32. A suggested family tree traces the origin of Prophet Shuaib from Prophet Abraham (Ibrahim) to Midian to Mubshakar to Mankeel to Shuaib.

Interpretations of the Quran (Al-Quran, Al Quran).

(The Coran, Al-Coran, Al Coran, The Koran, Al-Koran, Al Koran, The Qur'an, Al-Qur'an, Al Qur'an, The Qur’ān, Al-Qur’ān, Al Qur’ān).

This is an interpretation of some of the meanings in the Quran.
This is not a perfect translation of the Quran because the Quran is in the Arabic language.
The Arabic language in the Quran must be understood as it was understood over 1400 years ago.
Allah guides who he wills to the correct understanding of the Quran.
In the English language the word Allah is God.
Allah (God) is the creator of the Jews, Christians, Muslims and everyone and everything that exists.

From where comes the wrong understanding of the Quran, the Torah and the Gospel?

Quran 14:4 And We (Allah) did not send any messenger (prophet) except with the language of his people, so that he might explain to them clearly (Allah’s revelations); then Allah makes whom He pleases to go astray (in error with the wrong understanding) and He (Allah) guides (on the correct understanding) whom He pleases. He (Allah) is the all Mighty and the all Wise.
