Enrico Fermi Summer School

“Soft Matter Self-Assembly”

Varenna, June 28 - July 7 2015

This ten-days summer school will be held June 28-July 7, 2015 at the International School of Physics "Enrico Fermi" in Varenna, Italy (http://www.sif.it/attivita/scuola_fermi). Its primary aim is to cover the most exciting modern aspects of self-assembly in soft condensed matter physics. We would be delighted if you could pass this information to your group and to further interested colleagues.

The school will consist of 9 mini-courses and 5 seminars.

The topics covered by the mini-courses include:

1.  Colloids with directional bonding (David Pine, NYU)

2. Pathways to self-organization (Christoph Dellago, Vienna)

3. Particles at interfaces (Kathleen Stebe, UPenn)

4. Self-assembly hydrodynamics (Julia Yeomans, Oxford)

5. Driven self-assembly (Peter Schurtenberger, Lund)

6. Polymer structure and dynamics (Michael Rubinstein, N. Carolina)

7. Liquid-crystal colloid dispersions (Randall Kamien, UPenn)

8. DNA-based self-assembly (Oleg Gang, Brookhaven)

9. Self-organizing nanosystems (Willem Kegel, Utrecht)

Seminar speakers are Gerhard Kahl, Sofia Kantorovich, Christos Likos, Francesco Sciortino and Primoz Ziherl.

The school is aimed at PhD students and postdoctoral fellows from the whole world. Ideally, we would like to attract 60 students and we will do our best to provide several student bursaries.

Courses will start on June 29 at 9.00 a.m. and finish on July 7 at 12.30 p.m. Sunday 28 is the arrival day.
