Dr. Pratihar is currently a Professor (HAG Scale) in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and in-charge of the Centre for Robotics, IIT Kharagpur, India. He received his Ph.D. from IIT Kanpur, India in 2000. He visited Kysushu Institute of Design, Fukuoka, Japan, and then Darmstadt University of Technology, Germany, for his post-doctoral study under the Alexander von Homboldt Fellowship, Germany. Besides several scholarships, he received the University Gold Medal, A. M. Das Memorial Medal, Institution of Engineers' (I) Medal. His areas of interest include Soft Computing, Robotics and Manufacturing Science. He has guided 18 PhDs and 55 MTech students. At present, 18 Ph.D. students are working under his supervision. He has published more than 250 papers/book chapters and 8 books. His textbook on "Soft Computing" has been translated into Chinese language also. He has jointly edited one book on "Intelligent Autonomous Systems", which has been published by the Springer-Verlag, Germany. Recently, he has co-authored another textbook named "Analytical Engineering Mechanics". He has co-authored three reference books on "Modeling and Analysis of Six-legged Robots", "Modeling and Simulations of Robotic Systems Using Soft Computing" and "Modelling and Analysis of Laser Metal Forming Processes by Finite Element and Soft Computing Methods" and "Multi-body Dynamic Modeling of Multi-legged Robots". More recently, his another textbook named "Fundamentals of Robotics" has been published. He has developed three On-line NPTEL courses (MOOC) namely (i) Traditional and Non-Traditional Optimization Tools; (ii) Robotics; (iii) Fuzzy Logic and Neural Networks. He is a member of Editorial Board of 14 international journals. He is a Fellow of Institution of Engineers (I); Senior Member of IEEE, Member of ASME and Member of AMM.
