SCA Special Areas

 
The map below shows the Sydney Catchment Authority (SCA) managed Special Areas, which were created by an Act of Parliament to protect the water supply to Greater Sydney, the Illawarra and the Southern Highlands - roughly 5 million people.  The schedule 1 Special Areas are highlighted - access to these areas requires permission from the SCA. Trespassers risk fines of $11,000.

The Warragamba Special Area includes Lake Burragorang and the Warragamba Dam, which supplys water to Sydney and Warragamba township, and contributes to the supply to the Blue Mountains.  

The Woronora Special Area includes Lake Woronora and Woronora Dam, supplying water to south Sydney and Helensburgh.

The Metropolitan Special Area includes the - Avon, Cataract, Cordeaux and Nepean Dams, which supply water to the Illawarra, Macarthur, Picton and Bargo.

The Wingecarribee Special Area which includes the Wingecarribee Reservoir, which supplies water to the Southern Highlands.
