2017 Woodie Events
we’ve survived the Holidays and now it’s time to get some Woodie Events
on our 2017 Calendars! It’s a special year for us as we begin to
celebrate 20 years as a club and the 20th Doheny Wood! If in
some cases the distance
or the incline or the weather makes you hesitant to take the Woodie,
take the family car and just go. There will be some additional events
that we will remind you of throughout the year but those coming up and
the biggies are listed below. Woo Hoo…so here
March 10th, 11th and 12th.
Woodies in the Valley. Don’t miss this special event hosted by Wayne
Yada and the Central Valley Woodie Club. Activities Friday evening
through Sunday morning. This
is a fabulous event you won’t want to miss. Wayne says wait a little
longer to book your hotels as he will establish special rates. More
details on their club site.
March 25th and 26th.
The Huntington Beach Beachcruisers show. Put on by Tom Long, this Surf
City classic is great fun in a great setting. There are cars of all
kinds but Woodies will be front and center
(where we belong) right in front of Duke’s.
April 1st and 2nd (and March 31st
too actually). The Good Guys Del Mar Classic in beautiful Del Mar, CA.
Plenty of us So Cal members go down to make sure the San Diego club
doesn’t think they
own the place. The featured event for us is the Good Wood Woodie Corral
on Saturday where the woodies are all together around a circle and a
fountain and live entertainment. Special rates are available at the Del
Mar Hilton. Details on the Good Guys website.
April 28th, 29th and 30th.
DOHENY WOOD 20TH ANNIVERSARY WOODIE SHOW.
This is one of the year’s major Woodie shows and we have some extra
special treats in store for you. We will have a welcome gathering Friday
evening, the show on Saturday, Dinner Saturday night,
and a Sunday morning cruise. Special rates will be available at the
Dana Point Marina Inn. More details to follow.
May 6th. .(Saturday).
Automobile Driving Museum’s Woodie Picnic day in El Segundo. This is a
cool museum and Woodie Day will again be a good time to get together
with food, ice cream and live music; and your first
chance to reminisce about how cool Doheny Wood was!
(Saturday). This is National “Drive Your Woodie” Day. Put it on the
calendar and we’ll see if we can provide something fun to do as a group;
but be sure to go for a spin either way.
June 9th, 10th and 11th.
Woodies at the Lake. Tom a Paula Parson’s and the Up The Hill Woodie
Club invite you to a weekend at Lake Arrowhead. It all starts with Taco
Night at Caby Waby on Friday
and ends with breakfast there on Sunday. In between on Saturday enjoy a
day of Wooden Cars on the shore AND Wooden Boats on the lake. You can’t
beat that. More details as we get closer.
June 23rd, 24th and 25th.
Woodies on the Wharf. Santa Cruz’s big show is like no other. It’s a
drive but it’s worth it to be among our Woodie friends parked right on
the pier. There are activities
all weekend so watch for more details and/or check out the Santa Cruz
Woodie Club website. Caravans will be forming as we get closer.
July 21st, 22nd and 23rd.
Woodies At The Beach. Many people call this show their favorite
as they spend a casual day on the green grass overlooking the blue
ocean. More details as we get closer.
September 14th, 15th, 16th and 17th.
Wavecrest. This is the Grand Daddy of Woodie Shows, with the main show
held Saturday at Moonlight Beach in Encinitas. Historically this is the
largest single gathering of woodies in the country, though Santa Cruz
and So Cal will give them a run for their money. The San Diego Club puts
on an amazing event to help close out the Woodie season, Watch their
site for details.
