unstuffed cabbage rolls & rice

Title: Unstuffed Cabbage Rolls

If you like cabbage rolls this is the easy way to get the taste.

1 LB   Ground chuck
1 TB brown sugar
1 cup onion chopped
1 TB white vinegar
8 cups cabbage, cut in 1 inch chunks
1/2 tsp salt
1/2   cup water or chicken broth
1 1/2 tsp caraway seeds
1 28 oz can crushed tomatoes
1 tsp granulated garlic

In a large skillet brown the ground meat & pour off grease. Add the chopped onion & cook for about 3 min. to soften onion. Add the cabbage & water & cook about 5 min. or until cabbage starts to wilt. Add rest of ingredients & bring to a boil, turn down heat, cover & simmer about 30 min. or till cabbage is tender. Serve with white rice.


Note: I used Italian sausage and it was good. I just used one 15 oz. can of crushed tomatoes  and a little chicken broth and that was enough sauce for me. I don’t care for a lot of sauce.
