2018 Ag Day at UT

posted Sep 18, 2018, 6:37 AM by SMAETA Club   [ updated Sep 18, 2018, 6:39 AM ]

UT Ag Day is homecoming for UT College of Agriculture alumni, and it is a great time to exhibit some of your antique engines, tractors, vehicle and other farmstead and homestead equipment. There will be a few hundred people from across the region and exhibits featuring research and teaching activities from all the departments on the Ag Campus.

Ag Day starts at 3:00 pm and ends at 6:00 pm. Game time for the Tennessee-Florida game is 7:00 pm on ESPN, so you can get home in time to see the game.

Park free of charge in the area behind Biosystems Engineering & Soil Science Labs. We will set up in the parking lot between the Animal Science Arena and Joe Johnson Drive (across the street from the Veterinary Teaching Hospital). Traffic has never been an issue since most people arrive for the Vols football game during Ag Day.

Please contact J.D. Wallace (865-776-2888) or Dr. Willie Hart (865-974-7266) if you need additional information.

Directions to parking area:

·    Click here for directions on Google Maps

·    Enter UT Ag Campus from Neyland Drive on Joe Johnson Drive.

·    At the first traffic light TURN RIGHT onto E J Chapman Drive (DO NOT GO ACROSS THE BIG BRIDGE)

·    Immediately TURN LEFT onto Solutions Way – if there is a sawhorse across the street, the parking staff attendant will move it for you

·    Continue down the hill and under the big bridge

·    Park along the curb in the service drive area behind the long brick building. Consider backing into the area so you can get out easier. Very large vehicles or very long trailers might consider parking below the bridge. Just don’t block traffic.

·    Not all football fans are considerate when choosing parking spots, and some will park too close in front or behind your rig. I strongly encourage leaving your ramps down to save enough space that you can maneuver and escape. If parking in front of or behind another SMAETA member, leave enough space for both to maneuver, but not enough space for a car to park in there.

Join us at the Tennessee Valley Fair

posted Aug 2, 2016, 4:18 PM by SMAETA Club

Attention SMAETA Members - Make plans to join us at the Tennessee Valley Fair by exhibiting your tractors, engines or other farmstead machinery during the Fair September 9-17. Members that are exhibitors can receive complimentary parking passes if you request them in advance. This is an excellent opportunity to educate others about the history of your machinery, and the Fair is our best fund-generating activity. Also, participating members can join us for supper on Saturday, Sept. 17. Check your Newsletter for details.

We hope you are excited about the coming year and planning to participate in club events. A lot of good things are happening in preparation for the Spring Festival in May. We have some sponsors already to help us advertise the show, but we need all members to sell an ad or two to help pay for the show. And, we need everyone to turn out for the show to exhibit and help with the chores. Check the this website from time to time for more information.

Technical Presentations

Folks attending the February 3rd club meeting were treated to a couple of interesting technical presentations. President J.D. Wallace shared details of a CAV diesel injector pump he repaired for a fellow club member, and explained how the pump works and some common problems. Then, Leon Ridenour showed a couple of connecting rods he re-babbited, explaining how the process is accomplished. If you have a tropic you'd like to present, please let us know so we can announce it here and in the Newsletter.
