If you have a specific issue - something's not working - please consult A. Troubleshooting.
Q: Will sleep tracking work with two people in the bed?
A: If you have separate mattresses there is minimum interference from your partner. If you have one big shared mattress (which isn't recommended as you partner may need different mattress for his healthy sleep), it could still work assuming you keep your phone close to your body and ideally on your side of the bed. You can also consider using a armbands like the one here. This certainly solves the problem for a little convenience trade-off.
Q: How does my phone know when I'm in deep sleep phase?
A: We use a method called sleep actigraphy and there are several scientific papers which show that it is not as precise as PSG but still provides reasonable data and more over it is more convenient for the user. The phone has an accelerometer sensor build in which is very sensitive and if placed in your bed we have a record of your movement over the nigh. In deep sleep your muscular movements are suppressed (otherwise you would be running or jumping around according to your dreams :)) and thus in this phase the sleep graph gets nearly flat. This is in short how we measure your sleep phases, for more details refer to 1. How it works.
Q: I'm getting only few noise recordings from the night
A: Please try to lower the Application settings → Sleep noise recording → Recording volume threshold. Also please try to enable the high quality recording in Application settings → Noise recording as recording triggering is improved with this option. For more info refer to 5. Snoring and Noise Recording.
Q: Is there any chance to use my own mp3 files for lullabies or use an audio book player?
A: You are free to use any mp3 files you like or any player. Just start the playback in your favorite player. Lullaby volume down will take care to bring to volume down after you fall asleep. For more details refer to 6. Lullabies.
Q: My phone screen is on all night, can you do something about it.
A: Probably your phone has been detected as unable to track with screen off (please check Application settings → Misc → Screen off tracking). Please see A. Troubleshooting for more details.
Q: Why do you need to camera permission do you want to take pictures of me while sleeping?
A: Many users asked for the ability to wake up with light. This is possible with the phones flashlight and to start the flash light you need the camera permission. Unfortunately permissions are very rigid and you cannot turn them off selectively and in many cases you need a permission only if you use a very specific sub-feature. For example we need many connectivity related permissions even GPS just to be able to turn on the airplane mode when sleep tracking starts. Please see all our permissions explained in B. Permissions.
Q: My Battery consumption during the night is very high. Can you do something about it?
A: In most cases sleep tracking itself is not consuming much battery (usually around 1-2% per hour of tracking). But because we hold a wake lock (keeping the phone awake) any other usually badly written apps may access the CPU extensively during the sleep tracking time and the consumption is anyway mistakenly accounted to the app holding the wake lock (Sleep as Android in this case). We would suggest checking which services are running before you get to sleep and try to kill some of them or reboot your phone prior tracking. For more details, please read A. Troubleshooting.
Q: How shall I read the sleep graphs. What is a good amount of deep sleep?
A: Please refer to our documentation 1. How it works.
Q: Why does Sleep require the READ SENSITIVE LOG DATA permission?
A: We added log data permission because we had many issues with various interference of different apps which caused difficulties for Sleep as Android and you can only debug those issues when seeing the log file of the other processes. Anyway the log file is never send without your knowledge, you always need to confirm to send the error report email. Moreover reading logs is anyway no more possible in Android +4.2. Please see all our permissions explained in B. Permissions.
Q: When setting the recording volume threshold, which is more sensitive (records less noise), 10% or 90%.
A: The lower number the more recording you'll get. So with 10% you can expect more recordings.
Q: I do not have a credit card, is there some other way how to buy the full version?
A: You can use PayPal to buy the application from Soc.io mall or using Amazon payment system at Amazon AppStore. But please note that you cannot mix Amazon purchased Unlock or Add-ons with Play Store purchased.
Q: I have just picked up my new phone and of course i would like to transfer all the data i collected so far from my old phone to my new one but i can´t seem to find a backup or export function.
A: Normally we use Google's backup function. So if enabled in Device settings → Privacy a after installing Sleep as Android on the new device you will get all your settings, alarms and other data. This assumes you install with a fast network connection enabled.
You an also do a manual export/import process. In the Graphs tab, please use [ Umbrella icon ] → Export and make sure the dialog says successful. Than copy the directory /sdcard/sleep-data to you new phone's SD card. Install Sleep as Android on the new phone and do [ Umbrella icon ] → Import . This should preserve your sleep data. You will need to adjust the settings manually.
Third option is to use some of the Cloud Backup methods from the SleepCloud Add-on.
Q: I do not understand how the filter works or what it is trying to filter (on the bottom of the graphs)
A: Filter is based on comments and tags. For example you can easily only show your graphs when you did some sport the day before by typing sport into the filter field.
