If by Rudyard Kipling
Franklin D. Roosevelt sites Rudyard Kipling's If as an influential piece. This poem is addressed to Kipling's son, but was inspired by one of his great friends. It centers around masculinity and righteousness. Almost every stanza begins with if and goes on to explain the characteristics of the ideal man. If is one of Kipling's most well known pieces and differs from other poems because of its lack of embellishment. Rudyard Kipling wrote many imperialistic poems that influenced Roosevelt's imperialistic views.

How do you think that the above poem affected FDR's policies to get the nation out of the Great Depression?
