Junior Coach/Mentor Program

This program is designed for 6-8th graders that do not want to cheer for basketball, but still want to stay involved with the program and offer their skills to K-5 participants on basketball sideline squads. Participants should have cheerleading experience, but is not manditory.

Objectives for the Junior Coach/Mentor:

1. Assist coaches with the following:

a. Teaching chants/cheers and motions

b. Choreography

c. Observing and offering individual instruction to cheerleaders in areas needed.

d. Offering assistance to coaches with discipline and control during practice

2. Ability to gain leadership and teaching skills.

3. Encourage and motivate youth to continue in their athletic endeavors.

4. Act as a “model cheerleader” for the younger participants. Encourage good behavior and respect to coaches.

5. Set a good example as an exemplary Slade student athlete.

Requirements: Must attend all practices, games and/or competitions for squad assigned too, and be an active part of the squad in order for the Activity Point to be earned. Each coach will approve the point being awarded.

Registration Fee: No registration fee, this is volunteer / cheer coach in training. Junior coach/mentor will get a program t-shirt, award recognition and administrative costs for the overall program. A uniform is not required, but Slade Cheerleading spirit wear should be worn to games and competitions.

PLEASE NOTE: Every effort will be made to accept each participant into the Junior Coach program, however there is the possibility that the Commissioners will have to place a cap on participants based on the number of squads that are created once registration has concluded. Once registration has concluded, Junior Coaches will be assigned to squads and then contacted with a confirmation.
