Chocolate Syrup Brownies…adapted from my mom’s recipe from the 1970’s
½ cup butter
1 cup sugar
1 t vanilla
1½ cups chocolate syrup
1 cup plus 1 tablespoon flour
½ teaspoon baking powder
Dash of salt
½ cup coarsely chopped, toasted walnuts (optional)
6 tablespoons butter
6 tablespoons milk
1 cup sugar
½ cup chocolate chips
1 teaspoon vanilla
Grease 10 x 15 inch pan (jelly roll pan). Preheat oven to 350º.
Beat butter and sugar till creamy and light in color. Beat in eggs one at a time. Stir in vanilla and syrup. Mix well.
In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder and salt. Mix into syrup mixture.
Pour into prepared pan. Spread evenly in pan with back of spoon or offset spatula.
Bake for 22-35 minutes or till a slight imprint remains when center of brownies is touched. Do not overcook.
Make frosting by putting butter, milk and sugar in saucepan. Heat until butter and sugar are melted. Bring to a boil, and boil 30 seconds. Remove from heat and add chocolate chips. Stir until chips are melted and mixture is slightly thickened. Cool slightly before pouring over cool or just slightly warm brownies.
Let frosted brownies sit till frosting is firm. Cut into squares to serve.
