4-5 baking apples, I used Granny Smiths and Golden Delicious
2 tablespoon of butter
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon
A couple grates of fresh nutmeg, optional
A couple handfuls of berries, if desired (I used raspberries and blackberries)
1/2 cup flour
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup (1/2 stick) butter, at room temperature
oven to 350º. Combine butter, apples, and sugar in a saucepan. Cook
over low heat till the apples start to soften. Add the cinnamon and
nutmeg, if using. When apples are almost cooked through, add berries if
using. Cook for a few minutes, then remove from heat.
Combine the topping ingredients, rubbing butter into the sugar and flour till the butter is well combined.
Spoon the apple mixture and juices into four 8 ounce ramekins. Top with the crumble topping. Place ramekins on a baking sheet, and bake about 30 minutes, till topping turns golden.
