Welcome to First Grade!

I am looking forward to working with you and your child this year.  I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself.  This is my sixth full year with Skinner School.  Prior to Skinner, I was teaching up in the Milwaukee area.   I have spent eight of my 13 years teaching fourth grade.  This will be my fourth year in 1st grade. I have a Masters of Education with a concentration on curriculum and instruction from the American College of Education.

Hello! My name is Lila Hofmann and I'm a Graduate Student at Roosevelt University studying Elementary Education. I will be student teaching with Ms. O'Connor in Fall 2012 and I'm very excited to work with the 1st Grade at Skinner School.  I have had the pleasure of working with various teachers from Pre-K - 7th Grades in Chicago Public Schools and in Latin School of Chicago.  In December I will have completed my Master's Degree.

Chapter Books

We are asking parents to purchase or borrow from the local library the first grade chapter books this year.  I will let you well in advance to your child needing the book.

  • Meet Addy- Connie Porter

  • Freckle Juice- Judy Blume

Room 123’s Behavior Contract

Behavior: This year your child will help to create our classroom rules. They have all signed the rules as part of our classroom contract.  In my class, behavior is rooted in a positive reward system reinforcing good behavior.

Classroom Rules:

I have set up a chart to visually reinforce daily behavior.  It is centered around our theme this year which is "superheroes" are "super learners".  The students will move their "power" clip up for making good choices and they will move their "power" clip down for making poor choices.  I can’t thank you enough parents for sharing your child with me this school year!
