ADNAN KHAIRALLAH MOSQUE. BAGHDAD. 1992.

This mosque was built in remembrance of the late Iraqi minister of defense, Adnan Khairalla. The from represents an opening flower pointed towards the heavens. The dome resembles the heavens themselves and is twisted in relation to the rotation. The mosque’s capacity is 400 people and has a basement for female worshipers, which is partially opened to the mihrab. The basic concept was the brainchild of Mr Mu'ayad AlHajiyat. A senior Iraqi Architect.

Regretanly the Mosque lies inside the Green Zone behind some multistorey housing. Most Baghdadis have not seen this beautiful building.
