Meeting Saturday, April 27

Join guest organist Jonathan Oblander for a masterclass on hymn and service playing this Saturday, April 27, at 10:00am at Grace UMC, South Twyckenham Dr, South Bend (host Jane Flora).  The bench will be open for anyone who wants to play a hymn for Jonathan, followed by his own presentation and ideas on hymn playing.  See you there!

February Meeting Recap

What a great meeting we had on Sunday, 10 February, at Christ the King Lutheran Church in South Bend (Bev Butler, host).  After a wonderful organ performance by student Eva Lapp, we held a roundtable discussion on clergy/musician relations, church music education, and clergy/musician training with panel members Fr. Michael Driscoll, Fr. Henry Randolph (former chapter chaplain), Dr. Rebecca Slough, and Fr. Peter Rocca CSC.  More details will follow in the March newsletter.

View pictures of the Troyers' house organ (1950 Fuhrer) here.  We had a lovely evening of music including pieces played by local organ students and a wonderful improvisation on St. Theodulph by past-dean John Gouwens.

Upcoming Concerts

September 9th will be a wonderful day for music in the St. Joseph Valley Chapter!  Executive Committee member Karen Schneider Kirner (pictured) performs a solo organ recital on the gallery organ of Ancilla Domini Chapel in the PHJC Ministry Center (convent of the Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ in Donaldson) at 4:00pm; admission is free and a reception follows.  Goshen College Music Center hosts AGO Rising Star Katelyn Emerson who performs a solo organ recital on the Taylor & Boody organ in Rieth Recital Hall at 4:00pm; tickets required and a reception follows.  At 5:00pm in the Reyes Organ and Choral Hall in the DeBartolo Performing Arts Center on the campus of the University of Notre Dame early music ensemble Fleur de Lys performs music of the German High Baroque with chapter member Darlene Catello, harpsichord; tickets required.  No matter where are you on September 9th, be sure to catch some of this wonderful music!!!

Newsletter and Dues Collection

The June 2012 newsletter has been uploaded here.  Also, national dues collection has begun!  You can download the 2012-2013 chapter form here.  There has been a slight increase in dues as determined by national headquarters.  Please send in your completed form and payment by July 1 to avoid any interruption in your subscription to The American Organist.

April Meeting follow-up

Photos of the Schneider-Kirner house organ are posted!  This is a wonderful new instrument to have in our area.
